Our Bottom 6 - do we lack depth?

Post: # 958680Post elphie »

they got plaudits in Saturdays AGE newspaper these 50-100 gamers but really was not good timing.
in a game where we had not as much ball possession and our top tier players struggled these bottom 6 were clearly found wanting!
i think this is something the other finalists (GEEL.COLL, BULL)may have over us and is the one only thing i am nervous about after this shallacking.
GEARY
DEMPSTER
STEVEN
PATTISON
PEAKE..etc
are they up to SEPTEMBER action? i am not so sure. GWILT gets a reprieve with recent good form. RAY just too.
and who else is better to come in?
options are limited and depth does not run down to 22!!!

comments?

hmmm...ARMO & MCEVOY in big SEPT. action i doubt but wish to be surprised. your team stinger is based on a full-list which nobody ever has!
you have to run deeper than that. like our team this week with 2-3 out.

I believe armo is finals type footy. His an inside player what more could you want for finals footy?

Steven stays and should be played in the forward line. He is a goal-kicker as we saw against Geelong and we need as many of them as we can get.

The others have some work to do to keep their spots ahead of Dal, Raph, McEvoy and Baker.

Don't know about Armitage. RL must have his reasons.

i think geary had a timid start to the season but i think he was in our top 6 yesterday along with patto and gwilt.

i think steven stays in as a small fwd option cos he tackles very well and can score goals. hes very clever and tough. but he will never be a super eleite mid cos he cant run out of site on a foggy night.

i reckon its the top 6 that count anyways. when ur top 6 are playing well they bring the others along and make avarege players (like dempster) look like they can play a little.

when ur top 6 are down ur bottom 6 look woeful.

i also though peaky and patto were ok yesterday.

we just had a bad fumbly day.

ARMO.......the jury is surely out. i have yet to see him find the footy enough and run the lines in a BIG-GAME. that's why his place is not cemented with the selection panel. is it a fitness endurance thing? only insiders will know, but seems likely thwe case? prove me wrong ARMO. has injury excuse...but i am sure we all thought he would come along a bit quicker this year and be real good off bench as a rotating mid-.
we certainly need him.

agree. scoreboard pressure is where we MUST improve to win it this year.

to me, the place of any forward who is not contributing on the scoreboard is under threat.

That includes Kosi and Mini (who may be better suited to other roles).

All very well to keep oppositions to low scores. But against the better sides ... Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong ... it is not always possible.

Yes it has been stated that we lack depth.

For example people such as dawson and peake are liabilities, they are the kind of people who can cost you a game.

Steven IS up to it, he is a tough nut and never gives up.

Armo would be a best 22 player, McEvoy needs work.

I dont see many others to come in other than raph and baker. Im pleased with dempster and geary.

Pattison was not a best 22 player at richmond so why is he in the team at StKilda??

IMO our best 22 FULLY FIT is:

B: J.BLAKE J.GWILT S.GILBERT

HB:J.GRAM S.FISHER J.SMITH

C: B.GODDARD N.DAL SANTO L.MONTAGNA

HF:A.SCHNEIDER N.RIEWOLDT F.RAY

F: STEVEN KOSI S.MILNE

R: M.GARDINER L.HAYES C.JONES

Int: B.MCEVOY ARMO R.CLARKE S.BAKER

From our team yesterday
OUT:
Peake
Dawson
Geary
Pattison
McQualter

IN:
SMITH
RAPH
MCEVOY
ARMO
BAKER

We can have this team on GF, all bar SMITH, So if all goes well we could have this team fully fit on GF DAY (IF WE GET THERE) With Geary or Dawson in for Smith.

GO SAINTS

Im warming to Geary, but we have a plethora of blokes who will stick their head over the footy

What we are lacking are players who can hurt by foot, and sadly Geary is probably in our bottom 3 for foot skills

I like the team posted by James Rose, except I would have Gwilt at FB instead of Dawson, and Steven for McQualter.
Into the side instead of Dawson, see how Lynch or Simpkin go if given a chance.

The most solid our backline has looked this season has been without Dawson IMO.
