Tony Lockett badly hurt in endurance motocross race crash

* By Marcus Casey, Sydney Confidential
* From: The Daily Telegraph
* July 13, 2010 12:00AM

FORMER AFL hardman and Sydney Swans star Tony Lockett has suffered permanent damage to his left arm and is struggling to recover from a serious compound fracture sustained in an endurance motocross race near Alice Springs.

Friends have rallied around the reclusive 44-year-old who is unable to drive or use his arm for all but the simplest of tasks and is requiring constant medical treatment.

Poor fellow. Hope he gets better.

Skin grafts are very tricky... I've had two... I had a similar diagnosis about my right arm many years ago, and of course you can still see it, but most of the symptoms are gone. Can't feel the skin so much, and it gets very cold, but that is it.

good luck plugger.

He kept our club alive in the 80's when all was lost.

He deserves the full support of our club in his recovery.

What utter nonsense.
He deserves the full support of our club in his recovery.
Ditto my previous comment.

We owe him nothing. He chose to turn his back on the club (time and time again), should have the financial wherewithal to look after himself thanks to the AFL, so I cannot fathom how anyone could think he "deserves" the support of the club.

Why in God's name should hard working people contribute funds to the club only for them to spend it supporting an over-paid, self-indulgent, selfish, disloyal prick?

I hope he recovers fully and gets movement back into his arm.

But I am with Face. He shouldn't be getting financial support from our memberships. He was well paid and then upped and left. Even the article describes him as a Sydney player. Let them financially support him.

St Kilda can send their best wishes.

Where does it say we're providing financial support?

By club support, I thought the poster was implying emotional, not financial. Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I'm not a fan (as the article says, he's a 'Sydney superstar', that's the way he wanted it), but I hope he recovers well.

Why on earth would he want emotional support from an organisation that he's embarrassed by?

Good luck to him but I'm sure he knew the risks and I'm sure knowing those risks he'd do exactly the same given his time over again.

Haha. Yeah if the damage to big plugger was that bad, then the bike must be completely stuffed!!

He was a genuine superstar who owned Moorabbin - all the best to him. He has plenty of money, he doesn't need anyone's help.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

At least in the Hun the referred to him as 'former St kilda/Sydney'

The Hun story also mentioned his three most successful greyhounds who were ironically called 'Crash' 'Collision" and 'Colide -true!

Don't care for Plugger what-so-ever.

Seems to be a bit of a cold-hearted meat head.

Robert Harvey. Now there is a gent I will give my best wishes to till the end of time.

Kinda with ya there.

But there's no doubt as a footballer Plug was a somewhat of a freak.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

And you felt that way in the late 80's and early 90's?

Shame he isn't passing his knowledge on to Tommy Walsh!

I'd love a gun FF like Plugger to top off our current team... or the G-Train!

How many of the '66 team went on to play football elsewhere? Have they had rotten fruit thrown at them by Saints fans?

I think circumstances, reasoning, future behaviour and personality have a lot to do with it. Well... duh

I don't dislike Luke Ball. Think he made a very calculated, intelligent decision. It made sense and he couldn't do much more for us. Don't think many would really care. Apart from those who believed he could once kick 80 metres on his left foot and run like the wind. Nothing bad to say about the Saints, respects the players he's played with...

Tough crowd.

Plugga was a shy kid, that was also a supertstar, but whom did not want and could not really handle all the attention he was getting......
and who yes unfortunately developed intoa bit of a weird guy.
But not everyone can handle beinga superstar.....

Probably did not help that even the coach at some stages was fawning over him...

If he had come thru under Lyon and today's system may well have been a different story.

PS: Was one of the best several players I have seen ever play the game... I saw most of his St Kilda games and regard myself as very fortunate to have done so.

Good luck to the big fella. He brought a lot of joy to this club, especially over the many years we were only just competitive, thanks mainly to him.

Admittedly did seem to have a "bee in his bonnet" with St Kilda after he left, but I still like to remember him as one of the TRUE legends of the game, a title that gets thrown around a bit too much these days from over excited commentators.
