09 V 10 Saints Best 22

Post: # 953371Post Con Gorozidis »

Assuming no injuries.
I think we can compare our Best 22 for 2010 Finals with our GF Team 22.
Changes with player rating in ( )

Out: King (4), Ball (6), Clarke (5), Dempster (4)
In: McEvoy (5), Steven (5), Gwilt (7), Peake (5)

That means a net gain of + 3 from 2009 GF. Which is a very slight 1-2% improvement out of 220).

So according to this formula we should once again be very evenly matched with the Cats.

Injuries will decide as will the X factors . IMO the X factors are in our favour for 2 reasons:

1. We haven't won a flag. Pain of losing one gives us added motivation.
2. The Ablett factor. If he is going to GC, it might start to effect morale at Kardina Park.

So an x factor in our favour of 3-4% gives us the 5% total net gain we need to win 2010 GF.

Thoughts?

p.s before i get howled down i reckon dempster is more than a 4 now. But he was only a 4 in 2009 due to injury etc.

Luke Ball was close to our most important influential player in the grand final - considering the conditions suited him so well. I would have given him an 8 or 9 out of 10.

That said i do think we are in an equally good if not better position than last year, but more so to do with the orientation of the team as a whole, rather than the individuals performances of players. Gwilt's improvement has certainly helped out a lot, but other than that the team itself is much more cohesive and the game plan has been solidified to be more effective in any scenario

I agree. Germany showing in the world cup that being a good cohesive team is more important than individual player ratings.

LB played well in the GF but his 2009 wasnt real flash so a 6 will do him. If jack can average a goal a game hell be a handy enough replacement for LB this year.
