Should the Fan Forum and Opposition Forums be merged?
Moderators: Saintsational Administrators, Saintsational Moderators
I still think a general sports forum is a good idea, and I haven't forgotten that it was your idea originally . I've brought the idea up a couple of times in the moderators forum since you mentioned it, I think the idea of merging the opposition and fan forums was an indirect result.St Fidelius wrote:NO...
and just why should it?
I Did suggest to battye a couple of months back that there should be more forums...
The should be a general sports forum as apart from the AFL Opposition Forum, where posters can discuss Cricket, Tennis, Soccer ect...
Battye thought it was a good idea, but to date nothing has changed.
Feature article: KFC's "Double Down" burger!
TV Ratings: Hey Hey It's Saturday ratings overview
Do you know what C# is? .NET? Then you need to know this: XSD

Just my point on this again...
Why is there a problem of having an extra forum as opposed to amalgamating the General Forum with the Opposition Forum???
They should be different because they are different and so is other sports...
This site will suffer as it has over the past few years if there just the General Forum and the Main Forum IMO....
Time has shown that in the off season posters still want to be here and when nothing much is happing it comes done to abuse...
History has shown that and yet the mods want to reduce the forums instead of creating extra ones...GO FIGURE!!!
Again NO for me and YES for an EXTRA SPORTS FORUM
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

After reading all views I believe this appears the most practical...
The General Forum is for cooking recipies, good places to eat, 10 ways to die, JLH, 2 party politics, new ways to brush ya teeth, cat in tree and cow in street stories - like this front page pearler...

Maybe call it "All Sports Forum" and chuck the Ben Cousins stuff in there as well.St Fidelius wrote:What is wrong with a general sports forum where you don't have to re enter your details and meet up with politics and religious topics??

yes
i don't bother with the opp forum as there doesn't really seem to be much traffic there...
merging the forum would create a bit more discussion on other AFL topics and create a little more traffic on the main forum but IMO only the big issues would get a mention.
Don't think the traffic increase would be a problem. Would stop me having to go to bigfooty altogether.

If we merge them we might as well call this site aflsational. Everyone knows where to go if they want to talk about non saints news. I believe that this being a SAINTS website we should have a board for saints only news.
To me it seems that a few "important" people are going to push and push until they get their own way.

Perhaps we could change the forum name to Irritational?IluvHarvey wrote:If we merge them we might as well call this site aflsational. Everyone knows where to go if they want to talk about non saints news. I believe that this being a SAINTS website we should have a board for saints only news.

Voted No to merge with the G F/ Opposition Bored
The main forum is sometimes like a General Forum anyway - with folks posting stuff that has no place on the main Saints Board IMO

What makes people think that will be inundated with news about the other 15-17 other clubs?
98% of forum are st kilda supporters we're not suddenly going to be posting about Tom Murphy's thumb injury. As hard as they try there's only so many sex scandals at st kilda to keep this forum humming along. Wouldn't hurt to get some more discussion on the main page.

The problem I have with the suggestion to merge is that it is not always possible to tell the thread content from the title.
Something like "Another Injury Scare" could have people flocking to the thread in their thousands only to find out that Fevola has done another groin.
If you click on that thread in the Saints forum, you can be very sure that it is in relation to a Saints player. Likewise, in the opposition forum, an opposition player.
Save a lot of heart attacks.

Very valid and good point. We do have some very cryptic thread titles from time to timeGrumpyOne wrote:The problem I have with the suggestion to merge is that it is not always possible to tell the thread content from the title.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I think every Clubs version of SS separates their own Club's news from anything else.. Hell some club sites (Punt Road End for example) have 8-10 different sub-forums
