Club/ Baker Statement- post tribunal- audio 1st-post

Tue, Jun 29, 10 Saints Media Statement
St Kilda Football Club and Steven Baker are extremely disappointed with the extent of penalties that have been imposed upon him.
On any measure for what has been confirmed as four low impact incidents by the Tribunal, it is a most significant and extreme impost on Steven and the Club.
In terms of any further action the Club may take, the St Kilda Football Club Board will now consider its position and will not be making any further comment at this stage.

Rubish...........why the suspense........no comment at this stage........giving the impression they may do something about it..........they will not .......why not say it now what they will say tomorrow at 11:00AM..........Äfter due consideration we believe "Napoleon is always right"............we are grateful we are offered most generous 9 weeks........and we take it happily.........."long live Napoleon"...............
Someone has to challenge the AFL over the MRP.
THis system is fundamentally flawed and is a blight on the game.
For all is posturing about being the most professional sport in the country, when it comes to these type of issues the AFL remains the laughing stock of the sporting world.
BTW where is the AFLPA here. The silence is deafening from the players representative body.
Take em on Saints. Challenge the establishment in the courts and bring this farcical situation and those responsible to account.

If we took it to court, I don't think we would have any success because we have already admitted guilt with the three striking charges. We could only try and have the misconduct charge overturned and this would only save Baker a couple of weeks, not really worth it. Our legal team is no good and lets us down everytime. They should be sakced immediately and some others that can actually get some of our players off for once put in the job!
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

they just realise the f*ckwits with whom they are dealing and that jumping up and down about it will serve no purpose.
we've got to move on and win the flag to stick it right up them.

The statement should read
"We as a club will not taking this further because we are the AFL whipping boys for all decisions that can be made up on the run so that they cause the most disruption and impact only on our club."
"We have no further comment because the AFL are listening and we will be sanctioned for not toeing the line like we always do"

Heard the statement by Nettlfold on SEN.... Tone was clear, they are not happy.
This whole thing is a joke.
People need to consider that it's not just about fighting, it's the delicate fact that the risk was bakers season even with the most optimistic of thinking in terms of finals.
We will bounce back - harder tougher & stronger than ever before.

Re: Club/ Baker Statement- post tribunal
gt summed it up the other night .the afl has had a big hand in this decision and anyone who thinks otherwise has their head up there ass! they are a law unto themselves and have conviently manipulated the mrp and the tribunal rules in such a way that theres no escaping a penalty if they want to impose one .further more they are answerable to know one and god help you if you question their intregity .the fact that you cant use precedence once you go to the tribunal is living proof of that.and while im at it thanks to all the media outlets and public scrutiny for being judge, jury and executioner before this was even looked at by the mrp .they all ensured that bakes was doomed . never stood a chance well i hope you are all satisfied with yourselves .job well done in destroying the blokes reputation and quite possibly the rest of bakes football carriersaintbrat wrote:St Kilda Media Statement

If St Kilda take it to court, we'll probably end up coming home with Baker suspended for the 2011 season and owing Lovett more money!
Have we ever gotten our way when appealling anything?! It seems we just don't have enough people in important influencial AFL/Media positions
The only good to come out of everything off field this season is that considering everything thats gone against us, it seems to have made us stronger as a playing group and I can't wait to see Roo and Ross hold that cup aloft come September! See you again in September Bakes (if this season is his last I can't wait to see the rematch with SJ, next time can you sort out GAblett and Chappy too?!)

I thought that one big factor behind the push to replace the Butterss board was the woeful handling of the Baker/Farmer incident. I was under the impression that Mordi Bromberg was a included on the board for this very reason - to fight the outrageous injustice handed out by the MRP and the tribunal.
Surely, now is the time to stand up, hire a QC and take this f'n disgrace to the courts.

Bring back the Lockett era
Don't we have a QC on the Board in Ross Lavine?suss wrote:I thought that one big factor behind the push to replace the Butterss board was the woeful handling of the Baker/Farmer incident. No - Ross is a partner in a law firm. He's on the board but he's a solicitor - not a barrister.Saint Bev wrote:Don't we have a QC on the Board in Ross Lavine?suss wrote:I thought that one big factor behind the push to replace the Butterss board was the woeful handling of the Baker/Farmer incident. Mordy Bromberg SC is a barrister who is on the board. I have no idea whether he was involved tonight but I would have thought he'd be all over it.
If we take this further we need Bromberg or another top tier QC to get any kind of justice.

sounds like it wouldn't have mattereed what they said a certain advocate on the tribunal had made his mind up
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... 5885915131
St KILDA hard man Steven Baker last night had his reputation savaged as he faced the brutal reality of a nine-match suspension.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... 5885915131
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/c ... 5885664182Tinney made the tribunal very aware of what he thought of Baker "making contact" with an injured player.
A man known to leave nothing on the table at tribunal hearings, he said Baker's actions were "hardly manly" and "not brave".
In effect, he implied Baker was a coward for punching Johnson's hand.
As Tinney spoke, Baker turned to his left on the main table, where Tinney was sitting three chairs away.
Shattered that he was already on the sidelines for seven weeks, Baker's eyes zeroed in on his suited tormentor, his bulging, red eye looking even more evil.
On a different field, Baker might have taken up the fight to defend himself, but not this time. In a grey suit and St Kilda tie, and not in his footy gear, he had to wear this one - however much it angered him and the St Kilda officials at the hearing.
Tinney was unmoved, of course. "He goes for the jugular," one observer noted.
St KILDA hard man Steven Baker last night had his reputation savaged as he faced the brutal reality of a nine-match suspension.
.AFL legal counsel Andrew Tinney, SC, ripped into Baker in summing up to the AFL Tribunal jury about the Saint tagger's misconduct charge of contact to the broken hand of Geelong forward Steve Johnson.
"It's hardly the manly exercise on the football field to slap someone on the hand," Tinney told the jury of former players Wayne Henwood, Michael Sexton and Wayne Schimmelbusch.
"There's nothing brave in zeroing in and focusing on an injured player and targeting that area."
Tinney conceded football was robust and that taggers had a right to try to distract an opponent, but he said Baker had overstepped the spirit and rules of the game.
"That's not something that's in the spirit of the game and not what AFL football is about at all," he said
