When Riewoldt comes back, do we ...

Post: # 943041Post bigcarl »

1) Throw him straight back into his usual role

or

2) Play him at ff for a period until he gains some match fitness and move Kosi out to chf?

On the one hand, his big tank is his best asset, which would favour option 1).

On the other hand, it is a serious injury he is returning from ... and him playing deep would give players the option of either spotting him up on the lead or going over his head for a goal.

Opinions?

It was a serious question and potentially important to the way our season pans out. What do you think?

My god I am getting tired of seeing everyone type 'get goddard forward'...

It is almost like 'kick it down the guts', oh no zac is one on one' and 'my god our cheersquad are a group of 5 year olds'...

I know bigcarl, just teasing...

How about Roo to FF, Stanley to retain his spot, Gardiner number one ruck, and Kosi part time Ruck / Forward?

Harsh on Ben I know, but I think Kosi can offer us more at the moment playing in that position :?

Surely if I wink and smile, you know I am not being serious?

I've decided emoticons are overated, I am going to have to start typing a description of the context in which I wish my post to be taken.

(For example: partly amused, kind of surprised you didn't understand I was joking)

Disagree. Stanley goes out. He is only being kept in now because Riewoldt is not fit.

Has Stanley played in the ruck at all? His only other position has been key back late in last weeks game when it was over. So no he is a kpf and thats it thus far. If he was anything close to a ruckman he would have swapped with Big Ben for a while and that did not happen.

Big Ben deserves to stay and has done well. To me he is a younger version of Brad Ottens. He is a decent ruckman (thus far and should get better) and can actually go forward on occassion and kick a goal or two. He will only get better as he matures and his output will increase ala Ottens.

Not sure where I said Stanley would play ruck, I said he'd retain his spot?

I think Ben is good around the ground, but still struggling in the ruck. Think Kosi could play the Ottens role much better.

(oh yeah, please read my posts, thanks)

Don't mind it, but Stanley would have to show a bit more, including some goals.

Well Kosi should not play ruck too often considering Riewoldt and Kosi work so well. Cited the entire last season for evidence.

So no, Kosi is not going into the ruck too often.

We need a second ruckman and Kosi cannot be in two places at once so Big Ben gets a gig.

Read my reply, thanks sparkles.

I suggest to play Roo off HBF - he has potential as an attacking runner - type.
Later we should try him forward of centre ... later in the game maybe.
Or we could just run him off the bench - he could end up being a useful acquisition to the side if fit! :D

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

No, not often - bursts in there, maybe 60/40 (rd 1 and 12 for evidence of how he enjoys his footy when he gets time in there)

If Roo plays FF, not sure if any of us can see him playing CHF initially, the structure is going to be different anyway.

Maybe not every match, but against some teams I think it would work well?

Just idea's, as bigcarl requested.

(Thoughtful, and not to sure about sparkles)

I have no idea what we will do, though I doubt the club will really care in his first few games. All about him running around, getting some fitness and getting his game on ready for september. Wether that be playing CHF for 10 mins each quarter, playing deep on the ff line, or having a run on the wing.

Im all for easing him into it. You know has no other way to play but 100%, so managing his game time intially will be important, because he aint gonna be takin it easy. Anoying and fantastic thing for conditioning coaches.

It ought to allow bj to play mainly midfield, pressing forward.

I think we give him 60-70% gametime for the first fortnight, rotating between his usual role but more predominatly at FF. After that,it's business as usual

FF or CHF...both have to run a lot these days. The days of the stay at home FF are long gone. Besides Roo often drifts to FF anyway.

Therefore positionally I think it matters naught.

What I would do though is keep Roo's TOG on the low side initially, with lots of rotations.

Idea is to run him into touch and form.
