Looks fairly good to me, my worry is Gwilt strong enough in contested situations plus would prefer Blake on the half back flank because the odd free kicks he gives away by holding on in marking duels could be more costly close to goals. I still believe Kosi should be given a run on the back line when Roo comes back as Kosi is such a strong body in marking contests.

I remember Gwilt playing on Jonathon Brown one time and holding his own so I'd say that he would be strong enough. The Sainter wrote:Looks fairly good to me, my worry is Gwilt strong enough in contested situations plus would prefer Blake on the half back flank because the odd free kicks he gives away by holding on in marking duels could be more costly close to goals. Interested to know why you don't think Gwilt is in the best 22. Based on form this year I would have thought he definitely has a place. What do you see as his deficiencies?Spinner wrote:saintbob wrote:FB: Bakes Gwilt Blake

Exactly. As soon as Gwilt goes to FB so does a 196cm player. If Gwilt is so good at FB why didnt he play on reiwoldt last week.Spinner wrote:shmic_s wrote:I think Gwilt could pass Dawson. We haven't seen it yet though.
I what way...?
Contested marking?
Spoiling?
Gwilt is listed 188cm from memory - Even on paper he isn't passing Dawson for Full Back.

IF J. Smith can come in with some decent form, even if it's not 100% of what he's capable of and we've seen in the past, he'll be in the 22. And with that run and kicking accuracy coming off the half back line , that means we can use Fisher as a viable FB option instead of Zac. SOS said himself at three quarter time the other night that they 'needed to put our best defender on riewoldt' (Fisher) after Blake didn't work.
Having said that, Zac is in the 22 IMO. Even though I've been horribly disappointed with his form.

At least Jimmy watches the ball and contests.Spinner wrote:shmic_s wrote:I think Gwilt could pass Dawson. We haven't seen it yet though.

The only thing wrong with Zac this year is that he watches his man all the time and has no idea where the ball is. Hopefully he watches some video of his woeful performances and comes back all the better for it.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
To early to really know, but an interesting thing to do at the half way point none the less.
Dont think you can pick anyone who has not played a game for us with any real credibility so Lynch Walsh Dempster Smith's and any others out of contention at this stage IMO.
B Baker Dawson Blake
HB Gilbert Fisher Gwilt
C Gram Hayes DalSanto
HF Montagna Reiwoldt Mcqualter
F Schneider Koschitzke Milne
M Gardiner Goddard Jones
I McEvoy Clarke Ray Geary
E Stanley Eddy Armitage
I think we really want/need to play a genuine tall defender and dawson is the only one with any AFL experience, this is one that could be different by years end but no evidence who or how at this stage, Clarke, Geary, Ray, Goddard and Gram at a pinch give us further options down back.
Best 6 mids (montagna included) are a lock in, Still worries me that out of 4 small forwards I have named only one is a bonafide mid, but Schneider and Mcqualter can and will need to help out, Ray is part of that rotation on to a wing to allow Gram and dal into the centre, Geary and Clarke can have a run in there if needed but not really tried performers at centre bounces, Baker a second option for tagging if needed. If Armitage can have a good second half after he is fit then i would love to see him force his way in at the expense of Geary Schneider or Mcqualter, he is a genuine mid obviously.
Would have loved to have included Stanley in the forward line but think it would detract from our already shallow midfield options, Forward line very conservative, would love to see Lynch really press for a spot at the expense of one small forward but cant select someone on my hopes.
McEvoy my choice for back up ruck at this stage, King would be the conservative option but I think we will persevere with big Mac, Outside chance that Kosi takes number 2 spot and Stanley forces his way into the forward line but not likely at this stage.
Overall I worry about FB.
To many small forwards.
Genuine mid field depth.
Hope someone grabs it by the balls and stakes a claim in the second half, My side looks very similar to last years which wasnt good enough on the day?

Possible changes however are Jesse Smith for Dawson, Geary for Armitage, Steven for McQualter, Stanley for Kosi and King for McEvoy

Also if Stanley suddenly starts kicking 8 goals a game and if Leigh Fisher comes in and has 37 possys a game and if Heyne gets a game and starts kicking goals from all parts of the ground and if and if and if.SaintTom wrote:IF J. There is no way you could consider J SMITH or DEMPSTER near our best side at the moment. It is like saying Jarryd ALLEN is in our best side if he is fit. Can't see it happening. We have a bit of a messiah attitude towards SMITH at the moment and he hasn't played a game for us.
