I have an old video called Plugger that has a whole heap of footage and I dare say it would include this. Not sure where the old VCR is these days but if I can find it I will try and convert it to an avi file.
Probably be nice to do this for all my old Saints videos....some even refer to us as the "Southern Saints"...anyone remember when we trialled this name out to try and capture more of the Southern Victorian population and thereby increase memberships?

I thought it was deconstruction of the St Kilda name in preparation for pre-packaging and sale to Tasmania?Sainterman wrote:...some even refer to us as the "Southern Saints"...anyone remember when we trialled this name out to try and capture more of the Southern Victorian population and thereby increase memberships?

Perhaps, a long way back...there was certainly talk of that back then too. Some of the footage on those videos is quite unique though as much of it was taken by the club rather than the TV stations of the time. One shows a Winmar mark against Essendon early in his career that live was one of the best I have ever seen...amazing. Will see if I can put something together when I get a chance...degruch wrote:I thought it was deconstruction of the St Kilda name in preparation for pre-packaging and sale to Tasmania?Sainterman wrote:...some even refer to us as the "Southern Saints"...anyone remember when we trialled this name out to try and capture more of the Southern Victorian population and thereby increase memberships?
Reading this I was reminded of when they added extra verses to our song....I think I remember the words or maybe I just made them up as a kid....Someone fill me in please.
We're Saints, we're proud and we're almighty keen, we're on the move like you've never seen....we'll hit them nice and hard and make them drop their guard...we're loyal to our mates, cause we're the Saints....

Yep, brings back stirring memories. Trouble was we rarely won so it wasn't sung often. I reckon I could dig out the tape though.Maxstar22 wrote:Reading this I was reminded of when they added extra verses to our song....I think I remember the words or maybe I just made them up as a kid....Someone fill me in please.

I think instead of "and we feel alright" it was " and they'll fell our might"...linz wrote:Yep, brings back stirring memories. Trouble was we rarely won so it wasn't sung often. I remember going to the Social Club after he won - Plugger came back - best night at the Club - have photo of Plugger with a Trainer and me and the medal.
Re: Something Special
There I was there as well. great night, I got there after my local side had won the GF the day before and had been a the boundary pub for 12 hours before. Very pissed. Had Pluggers brownlow around my neck at one stage and also Nicky was back there as well.oh when wrote:I remember going to the Social Club after he won - Plugger came back - best night at the Club - have photo of Plugger with a Trainer and me and the medal.

We’re Saints we’re proud and we’ve got a lot of fight,
Were on the move and they’ll feel our might
We’ll hit em nice and hard, make em drop their guard,
And we’re loyal to our mates
Coz we’re the Saints
We’re Saints we’re mean and we’re all mighty keen,
We’re after wins like you’ve never seen,
We’ll get em on the run, we’re not out here for fun,
And we’re loyal to our mates
Coz we’re the Saints

Saints Fight Back Song
The song you are all mentioning is the Saints Fight Back Song.
Doug Parkinson I think was the singer.
I have it on MP3.
Originally I had it on a cassette I bought from a Family day down at Moorabbin.
Yeah, great song.
Will try and find a link to it online for a listen.
Cheers.

I have a booklet that I think was a bit like the old Saint members booklet that is headed Southern Saints and has a very young Robert Harvey on the cover from memory with spikey hair. It's in a document box so I may have to drag it out.degruch wrote:I thought it was deconstruction of the St Kilda name in preparation for pre-packaging and sale to Tasmania?Sainterman wrote:...some even refer to us as the "Southern Saints"...anyone remember when we trialled this name out to try and capture more of the Southern Victorian population and thereby increase memberships?

Really got everyone going up in the Social Club.
Wish they would bring it back.
The current version is so BLAND
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

It was TERRIBLE song. It was a Mike Brady effort and that's him singing - it was a dirge, no melody at all . The team would run out to it and we'd be longing for the 'Saints Go Marching In bit so we could all get into the clapping along and it feeling right, but it would go on and on and on until you lost the will to live.
On Plugger's Brownlow - who could forget the pic of him waking up the next morning with it still around his neck. I don't know how the Herald Sun got the shot but I suspect Danny Frawley.

Please....the song had the members rocking.....the uplifting verses leading into the chorus...was spine tingling stuff. Better than the current 1920's snoreroxanne wrote:It was TERRIBLE song. The vision wasn't the best but he was damn near 3 storeys high - one of the greatest of all time.
Have never seen it since - it has to be on some old tape?
I will never forget Brownlow night. My other side won the flag that year and we spent all day in the Boundary Hotel. After Plugger won the brownlow I drove to Moorabbin ( very very stupid as the Boundary had a cop shop opposite it) Went inside the Social club and there was about 50 people there and continued getting pissed until Plugger and Nicky got back from the brownlow. One of the last things I remember was having the brownlow around my neck at about 4am in the morning. I really wish we had I phones back then.
