The media should have a front page apology to the players in my opinion (without naming names, even though I'm sure everyone knows the names already). Good thing they don't run horse races, they'd shoot the animals first in anticipation that they going to break a leg. Just shameful how they carry on!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

I think its shameful how the media jump on to the first sniff of something and plaster it all over the paper as a “sex scandalâ€plugger66 wrote:Why is that?St. Luke wrote:The media should have a front page apology to the players in my opinion. A lot of yesterday was spent with persons arguing about how the "scandal" was "tarnishing" our "brand" and how sponsors may drop off.
Although the basis of the story was apparently correct there is no doubt the media sensationalised it for all it was worth.
Now that it has been shown there was nothing illegal involved it would be appropriate, in my view, that the very same media attempt to make some kind of atonement.
I don't think that's asking too much is it?

Yes, I hear what you are saying but it’s the all-guns-blazing approach that gets innocent people burned. The media don’t seem to have any regard for that but are happy enough to plaster innuendo and hearsay all over the news without getting the facts straight. The fact is, nobody has done anything wrong, but the dirt has stuck. In my books, this isn’t right!

Spot on.saint75 wrote:I feel for this young girl. Not once has she claimed anything untoward happened. She was just seeking assistance from the school to help her during her pregnancy. Lets face it, she is going to need it.
If she was after money, why did she not approach St Kilda (or one of the other clubs involved) first and try to extort money from them?
She is a young immature girl that has gotten in way over her head and if she decides to have the baby, she has just made her life that much harder. So lets just lay off her and stop with the character assassinations.
Whomever the father is, they are going to have to pay maintenance. So they should. End of story. It is now a private matter and it always should have been.
At no stage has this girl asked anything more than for a little assistance from her school as she deals with her pregnancy. At no stage, from the information available, has she tried to imply the pregnancy was as a result of anything other than a consensual act.
Some of the character assasination of this girl has been pretty low on this site and others. She's a young girl who along with another young person has made a silly mistake, they aren't the first and they won't be the last.
On a lighter note, if by chance this mistake was to produce our first high quality father son player, then by all means that deserves front page news!!
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

I was going to say he plays footy pretty well for a 16 year old school girl.Milan Faletic wrote:Was wondering whether Dempster got pregnant and was sent away to the country to have the baby!
Maybe that is why we haven't heard anything about him.
(Footnote: He is not involved in any way with the schoolgirl incident, it was just a joke. Sheesh!)

So how does it explain the treatment this story received in the Hun today (double page spread on pgs 4-5) with headlines about St Kilda/Sex and yet still no mention of Collingwood?
If the story has moved on from the tenuous (and completely wrong) link to 'School Clinics' and now centres on a teenage girl being pregnant, why still no mention of a Collingwood player?
Is the Hun stating, by omission, that no other person could possibly be the father of this unborn child?
How do they know that?
They've had no problem in identifying the Club the 2 Saints players are from, even after the tenuous link to an AFL scandal has proven to be false.
Why not the other player(s)?
And why no identification of the School?
Surely one could argue that,
if it's in the 'public interest' to warn of 'predatory AFL players' it's also in the 'public interest' to warn of girls seemingly bent on 'trapping' young men into unwanted fatherhood?
(I'm certainly not advocating this but merely raise it as a debating issue)
In today's age, playing 'russian roulette' with unprotected sex is an issue for both males and females?

Poor form from the Herald Sun with those quote from Nixon, can't see any of them were Ricky states that the location was Frankston yet that is what the article implies he said.
Ricky is just calling for an apology from those responsible for the leak (ideally if public this would be by an education department spokesperson to ensure the privacy of those involved), this really isn't a matter for anyone bar the girl and the 2 players and it should not be played up by the media.
I don't see how it can be in anyones interest for the media to continue to report on this at all. But knowing them they will probably keep this going for 9 months or more.

Thank goodness someone is asking for an apology, simply because it's required– for all the involved parties! Perhaps it could have been handled a hell of a lot better, God forbid simply for the girl and her reputation, to have these imbeciles handle the information entrusted to them (obviously by the girl) to be handled with a little more discretion
