Peake - Fringe player. Hasn't shown the run and pace we recruited him for.
McQualter - Defensive pressure is way down, not finding the footy and not kicknig goals. Not impacting the game and should be dropped.
Gilbert - Good as a loose man in defense, reads the play and marks well, great run from defense, woeful disposal his biggest weakness. Questionable when asked to be accountable (see 1st quarter on Waite).
Baker - Solid small defender. Goes hard and is rarely beaten but can be exposed one-on-one in space as he lacks a yard of pace. Thrives in the structure of a team defense.
Schneider - Potentially damaging but rarely is. Needs to focus on delivering the basics instead of the mercurial.

Peake - a fill-in player when the team needs some extra leg speed (like at Subiaco). An outside player with iffy foot skills
McQualter - really struggling this year. Usually sharp with his hands and feet and decision making. However, he is fumbling a bit at the moment. Never going to be more than a 12-possession forward. If Alistair Smith or Jasck Steven really get their act together, McQualter's position will be shaky
Gilbert - A-grade player. One of the best running defenders in the game. Absolutely critical to us. In our top 5 most important players
Baker - still as tough as nails, but a lack of leg speed gets him caught short at times (like against Carlton). Will play out his career in the back pocket. Absolutely essential in the tough environment of finals fottball.
Schneider - While he has the ability to get goals from tight situations, he'll remain in the team. Is important, as he can go int the midfield for short busts and be reasonably effective. The small, goal kicking forward is one of the hardest roles to do well. He's doing a pretty good job, and is unlikely to lose his spot.

Peake - Currently on the fringe. His performances so far haven't been good enough to solidify a spot in the 22 but will be given time to learn 'Saints Footy.' Must improve if he wants to play finals.
McQualter - Struggling to back up a very good 2009. No longer contributing to the scoreboard and opposition teams are more aware of his role. Must kick more goals and lay more tackles or will be edged out by Steven.
Gilbert - Started the year brilliantly but has lost form and forgotten how to kick. In no danger of losing his spot but must improve if we want to go far against quality opposition.
Baker - His form is better than I expected. Not setting the world on fire but he keeps his opponent reasonably quiet, has neat skills and applies good pressure. In no danger of losing his spot.
Schneider - Needs to find some consistency. Has deadly kicking which I feel could be used more in the midfield/half back if he's struggling up forward. Good final quarter today solidifies his spot for this week.

Peake-Very quick and zippy. Best suited as an attacking winger or half forward flank in my opinion. Just starting to fit into the saints style of footy. Stint in vfl did him the world of good.
McQualter-Been Quiet this year, but is a solid player who puts in his bit for the team each week.
Gilbert-Compared to last yr, a bit out of form with constant turnovers coming out of defence. very key part of our defence. great overhead mark.
Baker-One of the toughest backman around. very solid. Been a sensational servant in the backline for many yrs and hopefully many more to come.
Schneider-Brings great experience. Provides alot of spark along with milne. may have the odd off game, but thats footy. still got plenty to offer

McQualter - not doing enough. is desperate and kicks straight. but really needs more ball. lacks pace.
Gilbert - the bloke is awesome. moreso when u remember hes not a natural afl player. getting better all the time. but a great athlete and great tackler. we are lucky to have him. massive all time recruting coup.
Baker - tough as nuts. but battling a bit on occassion.
Schneider - tries his hardest every week. tough little nut. likes it when the game opens up a bit and he can sneak loose.

if today is an indication of how hard he can try, then it is time for him to be playing at sandy.Con Gorozidis wrote: Schneider - tries his hardest every week. tough little nut. likes it when the game opens up a bit and he can sneak loose.

He was probably top 3 on the ground after half time. Very harsh call.Sainternist wrote:if today is an indication of how hard he can try, then it is time for him to be playing at sandy.Con Gorozidis wrote: Schneider - tries his hardest every week. tough little nut. likes it when the game opens up a bit and he can sneak loose.

Gilbert worries me -this year he seems to be starting games slowly and giving his opponent too much room, though comes good later in the game, but he needs to to hit the game running at the start -and yes, his disposal by foot is poor. We need more intesity overall from the first bounce. I think Kosi and Zac are due for a rest at Sandy as they are not contributing anywhere near enough. Peake will probably hold his place as a running link up player . McQualter needs to lift and just hit the contests harder.

Peake Not playing up to expectations.
McQualter Has been poor all year. Needs a spell in the 2nds.
Gilbert Disposal has been poor, particularly early in a game. One of our best defenders all of the same.
Baker Has slowed down a lot. Still as hard as nails though.
Schneider Dangerous in spurts. Seems to be lazy at times.

McQualter- Seems to have dropped work rate after havign to work his arse off to revive his career in the last 2 years. Needs a kikc in the pants , back to Sandy and start working as hard as he was . Opens the door for Eddy i think
Gilbert - Great mark and reader of the ball, Love his dash - hate his kicking . Really needs to work on this as his turnovers out of defence are leading to goals.
Baker- under estimated hero. Rarely beaten one on one as last years finals show. Will be paced beautifuly during the year and come september will shut down Didak, Davis, Akermanis, S Johnson etc again
Schnieder - Smnall forwards have areally tough job in AFL. have liked him going in to the middle for small bursts but is very offensive in there and canhurt the other way. Would like to see him isolated a little more iside 50 as rarely losses his footing.
