For me.

OUT: Dawson
IN: Armitage/Steven
Lenny could certainly do with the support at the contest. Is our backline top heavy with Dawson, Blake, Fisher, Gilbert and Gwilt? Maybe we could afford to drop a tall defender (i.e. Dawson) to bring in another midfielder.
The only thing wrong with that statement is if RL thinks that way why not do it this week.

Steven, Eddy and Geary all in front of him based on emergency selections...Something tells me they are not happy with his game after not making the 25.
Maybe Armitage was spelled - no ressies game this week so he was given a week off - was a reason given as to why he was left out of the 25??

He hits the contest very hard at times and maybe he had a bit of general soreness - a week off footy might be just what his body needed
Doubt that. He also missed a week earlier.
Doesn't mean it was for the same reason

It seems that information from our medical department has not been very forthcoming this year

Hey just speculating - you may well be right with your opinion

Good point. West Coast doesn't have a particularly tall forward line yet Ross still went in with those 5 players capable of playing as a key defender. He's obviously keen on having Blake and Dawson as the "accountable" key defenders so that we have the freedom to use Gilbert and Fisher in a more free wheeling fashion.

Strange comment. Lenny was fourth at the club in contested ball going into the game. He's fourth now. He was equal fourth on the day. It would seem to me that Lenny has some pretty decent support at the contest.

Out of interest who's ahead of him?

So much for the theory of Dal being an outside player, but I guess he's always tagged so all his touches have to be contested.

The point remains that we need more midfield depth. We can't rely too heavily on Lenny, Dal, BJ and Joey no matter how good they are. A top class midfield needs at least 6 qualty players rotating through. Obviously CJ is our 5th playing the tagging role. We need at least one more and you would expect it to be Armitage.

We will be coming off a 6 day break, but so will Adelaide.

We can go hard against the Crows as we play The Bye the following week (another 6 day break FFS!).

Only one change necessary.

OUT: Plan A
IN: Plan B

GO DIRECT

OUT: Plan A includes kicking the ball sideways outside the 50 metre arc because players can't find a target inside 50.
Can't find a target inside 50 because the ball has been held up outisde 50 long enough for the opposition to cover all targets.
Ball is kicked sideways outisde 50 arc. Kick misses it's target. TURNOVER at the back of the centre square.
Loses to Carlton and Essendon almost lost to West Coast.

IN: Plan B includes having the guts to kick the ball quickly and directly to a free target inside 50.
No sideways kicking to allow the opposition to get behind the ball.
No holding up the play to allow opposition to get behind the ball.
Win against West Coast.

If we apply the same standards by which we normally judge raph clarke's performances..... Mini shouldn't get dropped. After all, he had a great 2009... Remember?

BJ, Dal, Hayes, Joey, Jones, Ray. Gram is in there when he gets back. Peake is in right now. Schneider has been spending some time in the centre. Mini can play there, as can Heyne. Even if we do decide we need an extra player through the middle, Armo's no certainty. I've been more impressed with Geary than Armo this season. Steven hasn't had much of a run through the middle yet, so I'll reserve judgement until he does. I think our depth is fine.

No change. Adelaide have Dangerfield, Walker, Stevens. We need Zac down back. I am definitely Pro-zac.

If we have room under the salary cap, one rookie can be made a nominated rookie as we only have 39 instead of 40 senior plus veteran players.
Nominated rookies remain rookies but are eligible to play in the seniors.
However their match payments must fit under the salary cap.
Another nominated rookie vacancy becomes available after the mid season break.

Otherwise there is the option to promote a rookie in place of a long term injury.
Hmm, who might be long term injured.
Rookie replacement's match payments must fit under the salary cap.
If the player replaced normally receives match payments the salary cap is not a problem as the replaced players match payments stop.
However a player like Riewoldt would be very unlikely to have his income arrangements affected by injury so the rookies match payments could be an issue

However it is pointless to promote anyone unless they are actually going to play in the senior side or be an emergency.

MUst remember who we play. Adelaide have Tippett and Walker forward so although out of form i expect Dawson to play, especially with the reserves having a week off.

Out: McQualter ( needs game in 2's perhaps in the mioddle- did wonders for Raph)
In: Eddy

Armitage, Steven Geary have all had more than 1 game this year and not nailled a spot ( not to say they wont later) Eddy has had 1 game and then dropped for Gram coming back. Performmed well in 2's all year.

Outs: Dawson, McQualter

Ins: Steven, Smith ( A or J, don't really care as either would be better value than Z)

Dawson's only touch came in time-on in the last quarter. He has hardly had any contested possessions all season.
If he is not dropped this week the selectors should retire because they are not doing their job.

People who are suggesting J Smith are living in fantasy land.

He has played a cameo role in two Sandy matches after playing two reserve games for North in the last two years.

He is coming back from what could have been, and may still be, career ending injuries.

He is not ready for the pressure of AFL footy at the moment and I'm sure the Saints, aware of what his potential is if they can get him right, will be in no hurry to risk him.

Just be patient and keep all possible digits crossed!

Older Saint, Raph never played for the Reserves when he was dropped. He ended up being the emergency at the Saints game.

Interesting idea.....agree Mini is shyte.

BUT.....we did win, and win well.

Adelaide is a shyte team, and we can carry Mini if need be. Eddy/Steven/Armo (take your pick) as a replacement for Mini may be just shuffling the chairs a bit (ie. possibly little gained).

IMO Mini should play vs Adelaide from a team stability perspective, but put on a final warning - either perform to certain level per KPI's set by the team, or you are out.

Make it fairly back and white (as much as possible with KPI's!), and put the ball in his court to do the job.

No doubt Schneider and Milne were on some sort of notice and lifted vs West Coast IMO.....
