Worst Fullback since Carlton recruited Mick Martyn

Ive just watched the replay of Saints vs Essendon . There were some positives as compared to last week.

Which was not really hard when you look at last weeks dismal performance against Carlton .

BUT Zac Dawson has to be the worst fullback since Carlton recruited Mick Martyn well past his prime , Mick was so well past he couldnt even bend down to do up his boot laces.

Dawson has been an embarrassment and surely this week will be sent to the magoos to get some form.

Tezza go back and have a think about the analysis - bit off target and Zac is not the problem it's the team and how they are working.

More interested in watching his opponent than watching the ball.

it was a howler of a game.

Anyone who can defend that performance needs glasses.

He made Adam Mcphee look accomplished.

Maybe it was the heading and the way you wrote it. We support the club which means all the players as well. Im sure Zac isnt happy with his game and luckily players dont come on here but no need for what you wrote initally about Zac.

No-one is defending his performance!! He is very much out of Form, but do we really need another thread about it!! Try and support your team you never know you might enjoy it! And the McPhee comment justs proves you know Sweet FA about Football!

I think we need to create two Sticky threads - one to bash Zac and another to bash Raph. Then the rest of us can get on with discussing other topics in the rest of the forum.

Its an opinion piece . I hope he proves me wrong too.........

But at the moment his anticipation and perfomance compares favourably to Ol Micky when he was at Carlton.

I dont know how many credits he has in the bank but surely they must be coming to an end?

How poeple can stick up for Dawson is beyond me.

If a bloke cant play he cant play.

Just becuase he plays for our team doesnt make him a good player

Zac was great last year but is obviously sadly out of form this year. Can we all just acknowledge that fact and move on? Surely we don't need a dozen threads a week going over the same old ground and repeatedly bagging the guy.

His form makes me wonder what SOS is doing down there. Especially in relation to how he continuously looks for the body contact, instead of looking to see where the ball is.
I also watched the replay earlier and they also just highlighted a couple of his deplorable efforts on One Week At A Time. All he had to do both times was keep his eye on the ball and he'd have easily marked it uncontested, or gotten an easy spoil in. Yet both times, as he's done so many times this year, he's gone to make unnecessary body contact and both efforts cost us goals.
I was hoping that his times on the forward line this year would have made him more inclined to watch and go for the ball more, but it seems it hasn't. He just has to start doing so.

Good point. Surely SOS is giving him guidance on how to go about it in a one-on-one marking contest. Either SOS is giving him bad advice, or Zac isn't executing on the strategies he's been given.

Once again I think it comes down to confidence. A confident defender (e.g. Fletcher, Lake, Scarlett) would back himself to mark or punch the footy when it arrives and therefore focuses on the football. However a guy down on confidence, such as Zac, instead hopes to out body his opponent first so that he'll get an uncontested go at the footy. You can see that when the balls approaching Zac's first option is to try to body his opponent and his second thought is to find the footy. Consequently, as he's no gorilla, he loses the body contest and by then has also lost sight of the football. He's got to back himself to go for the footy and use his judgement to mark or spoil as appropriate. If body contact comes, to absorb the contact but keep your eye on the football.

Zac is by no means a lost cause, he's just down on confidence and form.

Just saw On Ther Couch. One of them said Dawson should be playedf forward, but James Hird corrected him and said if he isnt played in defence he should not be played at all.
