Your numbers stand up, but the way I see it next week is the key.Devilhead wrote:So if we win in Perth we are looking goodBernard Shakey wrote:

Hmmm ... interesting premise ... from this I can only gather that you think we are standing on the edge of a black hole
See the way I see it is that we have 14 games left - 11 of which are against sides below us on the ladder at this current stage - 5 of which are against the bottom 3 sides - if we win 7 games we make the 8 - if we win 9 we make the top 4 - with Roo back well before the finals I can see us definitely making the 8 - if we have our full side fit and firing for the finals then we can win the flag no matter where we finish in the 8
We should win rounds 10 and 11 against Adelaide and Richmond.
Rounds 12 to 19 are a worry. On present form we'd be lucky to win 2 of them.
That's four wins in ten games and we should win rounds 20 to 22.
If we win next week we win another eight games and are in the eight.
Get lucky in a couple of others and we make top four.
Lose next week and I don't know if we have the ticker to go on.

The panic that suggests Stanley, McEvoy, Heyne, Gaertner, Steven, and Walsh and whoever that ranga half forward is that keeps being pumped up, oh Lynch... should be rushed into the side is just that, panic.
They are not walk up starts to get a game either
a: because they are not ready or
b: because they are not, and will not be, good enough.
We all want these guys to be champions, to help out the noble players like Lenny and... and... but get your hands off them...

My thoughts exactly. We have five wins in the bank and 14 games to go. Should be able to win at least half of our remaining games, especially considering who we have to play.Devilhead wrote:So if we win in Perth we are looking goodBernard Shakey wrote:

I'm glad I read this thread first. Good post SainterK. You are always optimistic and I like that about you. Some are jumping of the bandwagon so fast, its unbelieveable. So we lost. Not great. But not the end of the world either. There were some negatives obviously, but also some positives.
Let them jump off if they want. Its disappointing for us all. People who would jump off after a couple of bad losses after the last couple of years we have had - well they are not real supporters and we don't need them.
If we can snag a win over in Perth, we should then win at Etihad against Adelaide and Richmond...season back on track, especially with a lot of the top teams playing each other over the next couple of weeks.
GO SAINTS!!!!

Form invariably comes and goes - all good sides will go through a slump at some stage - Geelong had a mini slump last year where they went 4 and 4 between Rnd 14 and 21 - 3 of the games they won in that period they won by less than 1 goal - they could have easily gone 1 & 7
St Kilda at the moment are going thru a form slump however even if we lose to West Coast but beat Ricmond and Adelaide we will be 7 & 4 with % around 120 - it is very likely this may happen
The fact that we are having problems now so far out from finals could be a blessing in that it gives us more time to rectify any problems ... Riewoldt was always going to be hard to cover but there were some ok signs today - just need to play a bit smarter when going into the forwardline ... it seems that some are also forgetting that we are 5 & 3 with a healthy percentage
I just find it incredibly sad that some supporters on this site have already thrown in the towel .... hopefully our football team has a little more spine

I'm with the glass half full tonight too. Thought there were some very good signs from quite a few and our intensity was much better than last week.
Poor conversion of a lot of scoring opportunities killed our chances tonight but at least we created them.
We've got to stay in touch through the middle of the season and i'm sure there's plenty of good footy ahead of us.

We have only won one game convincingly. We could easily be 1 and 7.Devilhead wrote:Edited for accuracy :wink:Bernard Shakey wrote:

If you are suggesting that we have been in a form slump since the beginning of the season then considering we are 5 & 3 with a % just under 120 then that is a pretty sensational form slump - much like Geelong's last year except ours is betterBernard Shakey wrote:

Sure the boys might have lost there way a bit over the last few weeks but they are good enough to find a way out - all good teams do - and unless you have forgotten let me just remind you that we are a very good team when we are up and about

I agree good teams win the close hard fought games and we've won our share this year and last. The problem is we have lost three games we should have won (and won 2 we should have lost) in the last 6 weeks.Devilhead wrote:If you are suggesting that we have been in a form slump since the beginning of the season then considering we are 5 & 3 with a % just under 120 then that is a pretty sensational form slump - much like Geelong's last year except ours is betterBernard Shakey wrote:

Without Roo our forward structure is non existent and I think Ross is making it up on the run. It was better tonight, but we can't keep using defenders to bolster the forward line.
