good final quarter and alot better effort then last week. Is about where we are, battling for a bottom 8 spot as the sandy players are new and young. Looking forward to hearing who kick the goals and bests

Saw the game from half way through 3rd qtr. Stanley kicked a brilliant 60 metre goal. Thought Will Johnson did a few nice things at full back. Saw Eddy and Peake do bad kicks. Walsh looks like he knows what to do on the field and got his hands on it a few times but from what I saw I don't understand how he gets in the best. Stanley was getting killed in the ruck taps for a while but did well in the last qtr. Steven always busy in the middle so why didn't he get a go in the middle last week.
JUst back from the game...
Bendigo overall a bit quicker around the packs but an entertaining game. Here's a report on some Saint players
Steven - played midfield and was in the thick of the action. His disposal at times wasnt perfect but tried very hard and did some great clearance work.
Stanley - started forward but went into the ruck last 3 quarters. Has a great leap even though undersized in that position, kicked a telling 50m+ set shot in the last quarter. Played a strong game.
Jesse Smith - came on for 10 min bursts playing hlaf back or wing. Did well, his touches were quality, intercepted a ball from the backline and created. No sign of leg issues, just repeatedly came off after cameos. Was emotive on the field and really feel like he wants to be playing. Just needs more game time but a positive.
Peake - disappointing, played wing and from the bench thought they wanted him to be more aggressive at the bounce. Gets involved and then turns the ball over. Made a telling error in last quarter to pass ball by foot to opposition in ther back 50. More Sandy time for mine,.
Eddy - did really well, hard at the contest, similiar role to Jack Steven.
Walsh - played fullback for nearly 3/4 and very physical at the contest. Went forward and just missed long set shot near the finish. Looks to be coming along well, more games played the better.
Al Smith - did ok, similar to the Steven's, Eddy's but not getting the same ball.
Will Johnson - solid but his disposal is of concern
Archer - looks to have slimmed down some, lost feet in a few contests early but did well late playing back.
Cahill - played forward injured early and didn't return
Hutchings - did ok, disposal tends to be short kicks mostly

Jack Steven was probably best on for Sandy i thought his tackling was awesome and was always at the bottom of packs getting the ball out.
Stanley i didnt think was in the best for mine very in and out of the game and only started to dominate towards the end kicked a nice goal to get things within 7 points from 55m.
Tommy down back was very good doesnt get a lot of the ball but neither does his opponent played on Neagle and Laycock with only one goal kicked on him until put forward for the last quarter i thought he presented well, used his body nicely bought the ball to ground for the smalls and good hands off the deck. Took a very strong mark on a very quick lead pity he scored a behind though. Id like to see him play forward more as he looked lively. Also laid an awesome tackle in last quarter on the 50 to get a holding the ball.
Jesse played mainly wing and forward had a quiet first half but came into the game in the second moved well and read play very well.
Peaky I thought could of been in the best used his pace well and looked lively around the ground.
Simpkin didnt notice him probably doing a job on someone.
A. Smith didnt see much of.
Will Johnson turned the ball over a bit but uses his body well in contests down back.
Archer was quiet. Cahill when on was quiet dunno who else i have missed but im sure others who went will have there own opinions

great reports guys, sounds like smith is coming along nicely, will most likely play in spurts for the next month as this is now his pre-season. Tommy sounds like he is improving every week. Smith needs to learn how to get more ball

Given the amount of turnocvers our senior team have produced the last couple of weeks, it worries me a little that a lot of our Sandy players are maked "disposal a concern"
Robert Eddy seems to be developing the habit of going back to Sandy and always being in the best, yet cant really get near it when elevated to the Saints.

There has to be a reason he slipped through to the Rookie draft....maybe you're onto it....saint66au wrote:Given the amount of turnocvers our senior team have produced the last couple of weeks, it worries me a little that a lot of our Sandy players are maked "disposal a concern"

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
That is by far the best thing out of the game. My wife claims he was clearly the best unlike some of the others who were named in the best. For gods sake please dont take notice of the best named when trying to work out the best for Sandy.Eastern wrote:The most pleasing aspect is that JACK STEVEN was first mentioned in the best (hopefully the best). Tells me that the guy has real character !!
