Nostalgia?
Its a thing of the past as far as I'm concerned When I see some folks yearning for bye-gone days I often wonder how this current era will be seen by Saints fans in 25 years time.
I'm a (comparitively) newcomer to the Sainters family, and can't say I'd like to go back to the early days of this decade...although the wins (when we got 'em) were brilliant!
I was there when Carlton beat us in 2001 (their last year of finals footy till 2009) and the feeling was awful! I looked around me on Monday evening after the siren and wondered how many Blues fans had never heard their club song played at the end of a game against us!
At times, I'd like to go back to just going along to watch the GAME and hoping we could win, rather than being upset if we don't thrash teams by ten goals a game EVERY game
The price of our success (in Home-and-away games) over the past six years or so, is that we now are expected to win and that places more pressure on us, but I'm prepared to cop it!
This is without doubt the greatest period of Saints football since the sixties and if we can gain the ultimate prize, then those of us still around in 25 years time WILL have something to be nostalgic about!!!

Good food for thought there Jigster.
I can remember days wading through the carpark mud at Moorabbin just hoping that we would be competitive on the day. A win was celebrated like a premiership then.
Also out at Waverley where two complete layers of clothing failed to keep out the cold, and if we were ahead at any time in the first quarter, the cry to "Sound the siren" was common.
Anyhow... as they say.... nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Good one Grumps me old nostalgic mate! The point of bringing this up is to point out that those carlton supporters who were going off their heads post-match on monday last, bear a striking resemblance to Sainters in the earlier part of the decade! For Gods sake, I remember opening the car windows and turning up the volume to full-bore while playing the "When Saints go marching in" on the tape deck after beating RICHMOND by 9 (Yes NINE!!!) points!!!! in 2002!
What a feeling!!! But who in hell wants to return to those "heady days" ?

A great post by you as always Jiggin. The days I have memories are those days when you could play footy on the ground after the game and get mud all over you. Starting in the earlt 70`s when we won most of the time, then to the late 70`s, 80`s and whilst we would go hoping for a win, usually didnt happen. But Moorabbin was great and so was the fish and chips on the long trek back to the western suburbs
I love this club

Didn't have much experience of it at Moorabbin as I was in the Social Club for most of it.Stillwaiting wrote:Or getting your feet drowned in pee in the modern dunnies we had, great days
But it makes you think which were the worst?
Had some particulary wet & putrid experiences in the dunnies at Windy Hill, Princes Park & Vic Park.
Just made you wanna hang on for dear life & bugger the kidneys

In the later years i was in the social club, that was higher class of dunny. But the early years behind the goals were good funDr Spaceman wrote:Didn't have much experience of it at Moorabbin as I was in the Social Club for most of it.Stillwaiting wrote:Or getting your feet drowned in pee in the modern dunnies we had, great days

I reckon more urine was deposited alongside the brick wall of the dunnies at Moorabbin than ever was inside them.Stillwaiting wrote:In the later years i was in the social club, that was higher class of dunny.
