We added two new members this year...I added my husband with a three gamer (he will be lucky to go to one or two - two a year is his usual and has already been to the Sydney one). The three gamer is a good deal for $75 for those on a budget who are likely to only go to a couple of games but who want to support the Saints. They are counted as members in the stats and also have finals ticket entitlement (but not the GF obviously).
I think many people who bought these would be people who may not otherwise have signed up at all due to finances or other weekend commitments stopping them getting to many games. This way at least the club is getting some extra money. $75 is better than nothing. My older son and I are social club members.
I also bought my nephew a toddler membership. Checked with the guy that these are counted as well. He doesn't really have a team but was playing footy with my son and I asked my sister in law if I could sign him up. Given that I'd be the person most likely to ever take him to games, its great I've signed him up young (3)...hopefully another lifelong Sainter.
I kinda get a bit peeved when people blame the Club for the lack of GF tickets. Anyone who thought that a normal Football Club membership would get you a GF ticket has Im afraid be living in la la land for a number of years. It was clearly stated numerous times last year that SC Membership was required..thats why the membeship grew so quickly once we became very successful over the course of the season.

I thought, given the limitations imposed by the AFL, Ticketmaster etc etc...the Club did a great job. Taking it out on the club by not renewing your membership would be dissapointing in the extreme

I was kind of impressed with our membership figures, when I heard Ling urging Cats fans to join up so they could reach their target of 40,000....to know that we have more members than the reigning premiers is a good effort I reckon.

I think my Mum was keen for my first words to be St Kilda. Having lost a daughter to being a Carlton supporter and a son to the Bombers I firmly believe Im the favourite child as I was a saints fan before birth :)

On the point of membership though, the restructure of the types of memberships available this year was great. It helps out us out of staters and those with a tighter budget than others.

Well, I've tried the 'born into Saints blood' approach with the li'l dude, but it doesn't seem to be hitting the mark at the moment...maybe he's like his dad, who shunned a family of North supporters? Only my dad remains a footy supporter apart from myself, swapped to the Wet Toast in 1987, owing to our WA heritage.

He does say 'footbool' whenever he sees my Nick Riewoldt fridge magnet though, so that's something. The club song doesn't register at all, I might as well be singing 'What About Me' for all he cares.

I didn't renew his membership as I was unaware it didn't automatically roll over like mine. Better things to spend my money on now, so the Saints will have to be one member less this year. If we get to 39,999 I'll do it.

Er, no.

Remember there are all types of reasons for not renewing. No need to embarrass people.

Which I am sure you are only joking anyway.

Totally agree. As I said, I was amazed by how many people were not aware that their normal membership did not guarantee GF access. After all the publcity mid year around social club, and our club making a prelim in 04, 05 and 08, people had surely thought through this process before GF week 2009. To be all shocked and indignant about it at that point was unbelievable. To not have checked things out in a year of so many wins, with all the emails, articles on the website etc. I think there was even a mailout around mid year where it was all spelled out.
Our families social club memberships came from our disappointment in 2004 at realizing we would not have been going to the GF had we won that prelim. When the next years memberships came around, we debated buying seats or a social club membership, and found that the social club membership was a better all round deal for myself, my son and my parents. We couldn't afford both. Best decision we ever made.
