The day Templeton kicked 15 against us

Post: # 917321Post Mooksy »

Can someone please confirm the following;

1. Noticed Barks was on him late in the game - surely not many of the 15 were kicked on the great man? How late did he go on to Templeton?

2. Did Doug Booth kick a dog which had run on to the field at the conclusion of play?

3. When Templeton kicked his 15th, was that after the siren? Only this would explain why so many fans were on the field.

Although unable to answer those questions, I assume you've seen this:

Kelvin Templeton kicks 15.9 as Footscray smash St.Kilda

Also posting for anyone else wanting to see a fair bit of footage from that day.

The last quarter was a farce.
There were times when Templeton vaguely juggled the ball but was awarded the mark anyway.

At one stage late in the last there was a false siren (probably a train) and our boys made a bee line for the rooms.
But the ump called us back for the remaining minute or so of play, during which there was yet another goal.

I think Footscray Council gave him the keys of the city (whatever they are)

I can recall that he just needed to loook at the ball and the umps found a reason to give it to him.
The whole of the western oval should have been torched,

Yeah it's on electrifying 80's...or was sensational 70's...what year was it?

Some of the marks paid...fair dinkum ,obviously cheating from umpires was rife in those days.

Anyone read the article on BT's ton in 86 last year? They interviewed BT,spud and Peter Cameron, the ump that day. BT did a hammy,or groin in the first quarter and was stranded on 99...and Cameron knew this. So the next time the ball came down he just gave BT a bullsh!t free kick to get him the ton. Spud didn't even touch him

Yer some of his "marks" were a joke and would never be paid today.

There was something going on with our players and it look like there was a lot of bitching between our players. Watch the replay and you can see Barks's frustration.

That was the year where we beat all the top sides but in the same season we conceded 33 goals against Footscray. Some weird going on. Can players go on strike but still be on the ground? I suspect their pay cheques hadn't arrived.

I was there too. Can't say I remember every minute of it though, having expunged most of the experience from my memory banks.
Didn't Templeton kick about six in the last quarter?
Or is that just the edited-down experience left in my head.
Now you mention it though, I do remember still enjoying own own 16 goals.
(In those days we were well trained in clinging to inadequate pleasures.)

Yes, I believe it was a broken icypole stick. Doubled as a "borrower" for any holden HR and on as well.

I was also there that day unfortunately. By the time they put Trev onto him it was already game over. And late in the game Templeton only had to touch the ball and was paid a mark!

That was the year we started of really well and were beating everyone early until we played that game against the Bumbers at Moorabbin. You know the one where Sidebottonm got rubbed out for 4 weeks for an accident. Neagle mother sooked in the press we were animals and the Saints would not go near the ball for the next 6 weeks or so. I think we came home with a rush and smakcked carlton in the last game and Robbie Muir smacked Dennis Collins. Great hit.

Lost six straight.

Missed out on the finals by half a game.

Footscray came second last.

Lot of players in the reserves who played a lot of senior games with us... not sure what's up with that.

I miss the reserves!
