Walsh can kick a footy. His skills are exceptional. Struggles reading the game though, especially in the air - which is expected. But he can KICK!
Stanley was quiet lik another poster stated - But gee can he run!
Lynch started to have an impact later in the game.
Heyne did well.
Paterson played forward most of the game - But I can see him getting a game.
Heyne looks promising.
Surely you mean you can't see Pattison getting a game?
Yep mean can't see him getting a game this week.
And in reference to Archer. I agree - Promising!
Both Hutchings and Archer are Sandi seniors! Great work already by the recruiting staff!

interesting that there are four rookies who all look like they're going ok at the moment:saintsRrising wrote:I note that Gaertner was in the best again.
gaertner, walsh, archer, hutchings
add to that simpkin, who was pretty good last year and is only a couple of weeks back from injury, and there could be some serious pressure for spots in six months.

from watching from the other end our tall defenders (walsh, johnson and gaertner) marked very well and covered this tall forwards well. gaertner did provide some good run from defense also. Most goals for coburg came though quick movement of their mids into their small lead up forwards. I guess this is why I suggested that eddy was just average. Was in around the packs but his skills let him down and didn't break the linessaintsRrising wrote:I note that Gaertner was in the best again.
How do people believe he went?
Important to note that tommy has a very well timed spoil.
Got a little spitful in the third quarter when saunter got hit in the head by the coburg full back.
Heyne is the perfect medium forward. Can lead up but reads the play so well and crumbs like a small. Slowly developing a tank.
I guess when you look from a saints point of view it's less about what they do for the overall result and more how they attack the game, use their skills and create.

as I have said, was down the end with the forwards (as I wanted to watch stanley, macca, lynch and heyne). But he did some good things during periods of play. Basically a stronger jason blake at present. Still learning to read the play but times his spoils so wellborderbarry wrote:Solar, what about Tommy Walsh?

some saints were down to watch the boys go around
mini, gilbo, armo (in his leather jacket) and nick winmar. Little kid asked for gilbo's autograph and after he did that he made sure that nick put his signature in there as well. Very tight group

So it sounds like we have a few players standing up for selection.
Will probably come down to specific matchups against Carlton.
Given that Kingy had a quiet game, will McEvoy come in next week or will the long break freshen up Kingy.
Maybe Gaertner is knocking on the door, or Stanley.
Any opinions on who might get the call up for next week?

There was not much that stood out for immediate promotion.
Stanley and Heyne are great prospects, but nowhere near ready for AFL.
Walsh is a very long way off, but let's be fair dinkum about this he's only been playing the game for six months.
Peake was busy, Lynch coming back from injury, Hutchings can get it but is slow, as is Archer, but he'll get better if he loses some weight off his bum.
Johnson is not playing as well as he did last year.
Eddy got a lot of it, but butchered the ball a bit.
Gaertner looks promising.
What I've said may seem negative to many, but it's not meant to be.
There is great promise in the young guys playing at Sandy, but apart from Macca, nobody that is demanding a game at St Kilda.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

he's got a lot of natural ability though and looks to have a good football brain.Bernard Shakey wrote:Walsh is a very long way off, but let's be fair dinkum about this he's only been playing the game for six months.
was regarded as a gun forward and the best young player in ireland. he might be a chance sooner than you think.

Also of note and I was supposed to mention this last week.
The best part of going VFL is getting to be part of the quater time huddles!
And I must say that Ben McEvoy is a leader. Leads the voice within the midfield group huddle, and its fantastic to see from a 20 year old!
The head on this bloke is amazing - And is the reason why I know he will be a superstar footballer for years to come. Speaks like a 30 year old!
Best ruck combo in 5 years: McEvoy and Stanley! Watchout!

Lynch was never injured, I checked, he was never on the St Kilda injury list.

I went also.
No changes unless Gram is back, the magoos are all fairly useless.
Peake was shyte, really poor effort for someone who has played 50 odd games of AFL footy, don't lower yourself!
McEvoy was useless until the last term - looks well off the pace of AFL footy.
The intensity and hardness only occured in the last term - up until then they played as if they were dunces, not interested in the real stuff (as in the those who are contention!).
It's a shame only a tight finish seemed to lift the urgency of the Zebra's to try and put on a decent show.
Was perfect weather for footy - hardly any wind, and the ground surface was magnificent - far better than most AFL surfaces, especially the Dodgy Dome, plus the kids loved it, even if they didn't watch any of the game!
