Does he ever really do well in the ruck?
Muscles Minson has betaen him presumably.
In the 1's he never has any HO' s to advantage.
Personally I think he is more of forward who rucks than a ruckman who goes forward.
Put him against the Dogs, we never lose with him in!
This post is on the money.

But I dont think he is a forward who rucks.

Ruckman take a lot of time in the 'ruck' because a lot of it is technique and strength.

That will come, McEvoy seems like a terrific learner, and a hard worker.

What is extremely pleasing is that he has talent around the field, and is displaying potential in the 'ruck'....And he is only 20!

Herald Sun report
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/s ... 5857975566

THEY were unheralded at the start of the season.
the tipsters thought the Sandringham Zebras hadn't recruited well enough to demand inclusion in the top eight.

And word got around during the practice matches that their game plan was too stodgy.

But after three rounds the Zebras sit atop the VFL ladder as the only unbeaten team.

On Saturday they did what only good teams do, beat Williamstown at Point Gellibrand.

It wasn't easy. It never is out there. Sandy led by 31 points at the last change, but Willy were finishing off with the sort of wind that so often blows hard at this great old ground.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
was really proud of our boys. They played hard and tough," coach Andy Lovell said on Saturday night.

"In the end we just held on, dug in and dug in. It was a pretty special sort of win.

"I know we can improve a lot. We still made a lot of errors. We haven't played a lot of footy together.

Spinner wrote:Quick Report - Might put more detail depending on how quickly I get over this loss.

McEvoy - Loved his leadership, this bloke was running the midfield group - very vocal in the huddles.

Got dominated by Minson in the ruck, but his ground work was great! One instance he dodged a couple of players took a few steps and booted it long. Impressive.

Stanley - Played forward/centre. Two dashes through the centre. The second was awesome, broke a tackle and just bolted through the middle. Went a bit quiet towards the end except for a brilliant mark in the square in the last....15m out, kicked a point and ensured not a single goal was scored against the 20 goal wind.

Walsh - Liked what I saw, very athletic. Very methodical when he kicked it, and hit a couple of nice targets. Clearly still learning to kick but what i loved was that he went though the technique of kicking - didnt rush, didnt slam onto the boot.

Didnt contest many marks which was concerning, as a spot as a key forward looms.

Smith - Didnt notice much - Got a rap from Lovell for tagging some bloke....number 10.

Hutchings and Archer - Seemed to compete very very well. Good efforts.

Johnson - Was servicable down back.

Geartner - Did well.

Heyne - Did some nice things.

Clearly from by report the bigger blokes are easier to identify from the boundary line.

The most important thing is that we will potentially have the best ruck division in the league in 4 years time!!!!
Thanks for the info, Spinner.

I know this is lazy, but is Gaertner a rookie? He did ok in the NAB cup.

He is my first gone IMO
I would have thought that Jarryd Allen is first cab off the rank to be delisted at year's end, closely followed by Leigh Fisher?
yep

l fisher
j allen
l miles
s king

thats 4 gone.

Theyre rookies (allen and Fisher) theyre not counted in players. So those plus at least 3 off main list

Well unless they know something we don't about Roo... why not promote him and put Roo on the LTI list?

Unless they are confident he'll be back sooner. Fingers crossed.

I am kind of glad that Will Minson played well. He is putrid and a liability when he plays. This is a good thing

Why do that unless hes a certainty to be played in the seniors? Once promoted he's on full AFL match payments..which seems a little wasteful if he's just playing for Sandy. If he plays a series of blinders we can elevate him anytime until they think Roo is less than 8 weeks away

You, on the other hand, are a gun ruckman.....

Minson is dangerous when in form.

miles is already on the long term injured list, so there's a spot already open but as far as i know no-one has been promoted into it.

putting roo on the list means that he has to come off the list at some point, which gives a big signal to the rest of the competition as to when he's coming back. let's not bother with that and keep it cloak-and-dagger.

Injury News
No news is good news – no major injury concerns to come out of the weekend.Tom Simpkin returned and made it though the whole game in the reserves and a few other names look set to return
in the near future.

27th April 2010 – Round 3 Review
Sandringham remain undefeated in 2010 after overcoming a strong Williamstown side in trying conditions at Burbank Oval by one point. Sandringham lead at every change but had to hold off a fast finishing
Williamstown side who was kicking with the breeze in the last quarter.

After the game senior coach Andy Lovell was quick to praise the efforts of the Zebras who had won against the odds, after starting strongly he was impressed the young group were able to hold on in the last quarter against what he considered a five goal breeze. >>>>>>>>>>

In the Reserves the Zebras went down to a big and bulky Williamstown side by 6 goals. Coach Jeremy Barnard said there were definitely positives to take from the loss "we won a lot more of the contested ball this week and the effort was much improved on last week" he said "our last possession let us down, it created turnovers which then turned into transition goals". Barnard commended Scott Gowers effort in defence who he described as "magnificent" he was also impressed with Jarryd Allan >>>>>>>>>.

I dont think they will be promoting Gaertner at the moment, not with Tommy Walsh doing so well at the weekend. They will keeping a spot for him surely.

I thought Minson was average at best...did ok in the ruck but around the ground was virtually unsighted, whereas McEvoy stood out like a beacon in the backline particulalrly in the last 1/4

Minson dominated in the ruck, absolutely dominated. Around the ground he was not seen.

The last quarter (with the gale) he continually belted the ball forward center bounce after centre bounce.
