Dawson A Major Issue
Dawson in my opinion over the last couple of years has simply been overrated and has looked much better than his performances suggest due to the Saints dominance and there dominance as a unit defensively, with their specific zones in place.
My critisicism of Dawson just doesnt come from tonight, as many players didnt have their best night. However my opinion comes from overtime and the way the saints will perform this year.
Clearly without our superstar Nick Riewoldt and different teams being able to pentrate our zones slightly better than last year, clearly the saints won't be as domiant as last year, which can be understandble.
Due to this though, passengers won't be able to be carried especially in key positions. Dawson is indecisive, has poor decision making under pressure and makes clincal errors when under pressure, his skills under pressure can also be questioned and over recent times he seems lethargic, putting extra pressure on the likes of fisher and gilbert to hold our defence together. Dawson has no physical stature or prescence about him, making it very difficult for him to compete. Teams slowly will be able to expose dawson one on one and will be looking to take him to the sqaure consistently.
An issue is that their are limited options in replacing dawson in the reserves, which maybe a further reason dawson holds his spot. However, has it is known all good sides have very good defences and specifically full backs, for example recent premiership sides in geelong and brisbane had scarlett and michael. We may have a very good defence which I believe we do, however, I see it has impossible to build a defence around dawson and has our season further develops I believe more pressure will mount on his position on the side and I believe Gwilt needs to be utilised more in Dawson's positions as he has shown some promising signs this year. I personally cant understand how he does not cop critisicism from media outlets, especially againist performances like collingwood their year, were all 4 of collingwood goals led from dawson being out bodied by an out of form cloke, or free kicks that he gave away from didak, it eludes me how dawson hasnt been put under pressure from the media.

For the sake of the record I'd like to say Dawson scares the hell out of me when he gets the ball. Same with Raph Clarke. However you can see they both have something about them that could go somewhere very promising...it's just when and where it'll happen. I know I'm still waiting for those footy smarts to kick in, and you do see bursts of brilliance from both players from time to time. Just not consistently.
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
So it's Saints Footy to carry a player through match after match? Therefore Saints Footy = 17 on 18SaintWal wrote:that is Saints Footy. I think the Prizefighter proved pre-season that he has Zac totally covered.
Would be insane to play Dawson on him.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

No, you're looking at the scoreline, not the game. Zac had him for 3 quarters, to the point where Barry almost 'thought' about booking himself another 6 week holiday. Zac was underdone, Barry was flying, it was a practice match regardless. Zac for FB.Enrico_Misso wrote:degruch wrote:Re-match on Hall next week, ABSOLUTELY leave him at FB! Was Zac our worst tonight?Saintsfan wrote:So it's Saints Footy to carry a player through match after match? Therefore Saints Footy = 17 on 18SaintWal wrote:that is Saints Footy. One of our worst. Raph was our worst.SaintWal wrote:Was Zac our worst tonight?Saintsfan wrote:So it's Saints Footy to carry a player through match after match? Zac to Raph in transition was almost botch to botch at one stage.
Zac has played poorly for a while now however. The other players have many credits in the game to go if Zac's constant selection is anything to go by.

know where you are coming from!! Zac plays well when the side is playing well, so does raph. I still don't think that Zac was all that bad tonight. We just did not do what we normally do and maybe we have not paid enough creedence to Port.Saintsfan wrote:One of our worst. not sure what the defensive coach sees in Dawson, I am no expert so I trust professional coaches to make the right call. But bloody hell, I worry when the ball goes near Zac. Look, at one stage...Lyon dropped Nick Dal for not being intense enough and not following team rules, wonder when Zac has his turn ?
Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, an unselfish woman- what do they all have in common? Answer- we would all like to believe they are true, but they are all fictional.
