Waldron was not "in charge" at St Kilda in the way he was at the Melbourne Storm.

Waldron had been a 'mere' football manager at the Saints under Watson, and was involved in the operations side of things when Hanly and Watts were around.

Butters, Watts and Thomas ran the Saints at that stage.

From my own memory, we did not begin paying 100% of the salary cap until 2004, and 2004 was Waldron's last year at the club.

Let's be clear - Waldron left the Saints at the end of 2004. Any enquiry into his time at the club where he had sufficient influence over player contracts would relate to the period 2002-04, and in this era I do not believe we were paying the full salary cap.

Furthermore, Butters and Thomas had far more control at the Saints than Waldron did (whereas BW was very much #1 at the Storm).

Thomas himself did nearly all the player contracts from '03 onwards, and for this very reason we do not have anything serious to worry about.

Finally, the Saints have been fined 2-3 times in the past 4 years (2006-08) for exceeding their Total Player Payments, and each time have gone willingly to the AFL to admit their mistake/errors and cop the penalty.

The AFL also had a VERY good look at St Kilda's books in 2001 when Butters took over and managed to avoid receiving AFL assistance.

Take a deep breath.

the investigators will go through the books with a fine toothed comb to discover harves and buckets took pay cuts, out of their own volition, to ensure the team would be within the salary cap. players making a sacrifice - surely this is not kosher!
