If he did not get hurt in the 97 final against Brisbane we would have not made the grand final....getting killed in the ruck and forced to swing leowe on the ball...
When he went to hawthorn he was no threat to us...just squibbed it out wide for a coupla marks a game but did very little.

Interesting Spida Everitt anecdote

I didn't realise he broke his collarbone in Stewies last game. Well that explains his p!ssweak effort.Bernard Shakey wrote:Come on, we all know he deliberately broke his collarbone.plugger66 wrote:Love how our players are hacks once they leave our club. Not sure what happened, but Alves was never the preferred option.Saintsfan wrote:So nobody replied to my post. I am interested...
Did Harvey, Burke and Stewie have major say in the demise of Stan Alves?
BArker was the king in waiting, then it went pear shape for him.

I am friends with a past player and i was told by him that a group of players threatened to leave if Stan Avles wasn't sacked because of his constant belittling and humiliation of players in front of the whole team. In the end they all hated him apart from a select few.Milton66 wrote:Not sure what happened, but Alves was never the preferred option.Saintsfan wrote:So nobody replied to my post. I am interested...

the only time I heard Harves become more insistent in a discussion - certainly in his last couple of years when he was asked constantly- where when queried on this and he would deny it vehemently..Saintsfan wrote:So nobody replied to my post. I am interested...

Well, not sure about the above, but my mail from a source close to Burke reckons there were moves by said players and possibly Frawley to kick Thomas and the Board out.Saintsfan wrote:If that is even close to the truth then my respect for the three of them has diminishedMilton66 wrote:Not sure what happened, but Alves was never the preferred option.Saintsfan wrote:So nobody replied to my post. Interesting one that... I recall chatting to Stewie in his bar a while back and asked him why O'Brien left.Saint4Eva wrote:I am friends with a past player and i was told by him that a group of players threatened to leave if Stan Avles wasn't sacked because of his constant belittling and humiliation of players in front of the whole team. His response was: You can thank ****'n Stan for that.

I know it's being two-sides however if that is true and we are successful...i couldn't care less.Milton66 wrote:Well, not sure about the above, but my mail from a source close to Burke reckons there were moves by said players and possibly Frawley to kick Thomas and the Board out.Saintsfan wrote:If that is even close to the truth then my respect for the three of them has diminishedMilton66 wrote:Not sure what happened, but Alves was never the preferred option.Saintsfan wrote:So nobody replied to my post. However...if we do not win a flag with our current squad/off-field team...that is multiple regimes Nathan Bourke has been a part of that has ended without the desired result.

Ironically it was the moron son of one of our greatest ever legends that broke Spider's collarbone, that combined with the loss of Video Vidivic doomed our campaign in 97.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Who said I was having a go at Nathan Burke? What I was saying is that if he has seemingly been a major part of the over-throwing of two regimes and they both do not lead to success....well...who is the problem?stinger wrote:what...you having a f****** go at burkey on what....evidence that someone supposedly said something to someone else.......get real ffs....

There were alleged rumblings about the direction of the club under Butters and GT. I can't recall if it was after Burke quit as assistant.
I can't comment on the Alves thing, but that's what I heard about the board.
Nothing came of it at the time bout of respect for Harvey. And hed he been exited out sooner, then it may likely have happened sooner.
Then again, who knows.

So just because he is Nathan Burke he is immune from criticism? Mind you I have not criticised him at all I have made an observation.stinger wrote:Milton66 wrote:Not sure if that's directed at me... but my sauce was pretty close to the Burke family.stinger wrote:what...you having a f****** go at burkey on what....evidence that someone supposedly said something to someone else.......get real ffs....

Barry Lawrence
I wouldn't call the sharkman one of our all time greats, though he has got a premiership medal.
Barry was a true superstar, though I feel he did tarnish his reputation by sitting on the bench as a 40+ year old in the QAFL reserves to manipulate the father-son rule.
