Armo and Geary and a great win
Thought Armitage's last quarter was his best quarter of footy for the club. Threw himself into packs, would have had 7-8 disposals and almost kicked the sealing goal.
He looked strong at the clearances all night and used the ball well.
I also thought it was Geary's toughest game for us. He really stood up and the way he stood his ground and laid that bump in second quarter was sensational. Attacked the ball and used it really well, and looked composed in the backline.
Thought our forward structure in the second half when Dawson was the target and Fisher played back was far more effective. It released Gilbert who gave us some drive, and Dawson put the ball to ground and presented on the lead very effectively.
And Goddard - incredible.
Go Saints - great win for us, means we can go 11-7 now for the rest of the year (not that we will!) and still make the top four.

Yeah Armo was average-ish up until around 3 quarter time, but absolutely blew the game wide open in the last, his hardness at the ball is seriously incredible.
Not sure if i agree about Geary, he was hard at it on a few occasions but you expect that from everyone- would have been in the bottom 5 or 6 for me tonight I reckon

I thought Geary was tremendous. Armo was good too, but Geary impressed me more.
I also thought Dawson looked pretty reasonable as a forward. Unfortunately he's a lumbering tall like Kosi and we don't need two.
BJ would win a spot as an out and out forward at about 12 out of 16 clubs (including Geelong).
Milne, when he can get on top of his direct opponent, is breathtakingly good.
Lenny, Dal, Joey and CJ are an awesome midfield and won the game for us tonight.

Geary does the stuff that I love, he is the first to fly the flag, does the small things to help out his teammates often. That bump was not just perfectly executed, it was at a time when Freo was pushing. I am sure his bump will be highlighted this week in the review, he was very very important.
Armitage played well but lifted a gear for sure in the last quarter, first to the ball, and rewarded for his effort. Think if he can pick up where he left off in that last quarter, his confidence should be sky high. It was telling that his game improved towards the end, given that in the past he has been criticised for fading out a little.
Well done, great to see the kids stepping up!

We were sitting in the pocket and watched ffrom about 10 yards away when Geary absolutely threw himself in against 2 opponents both bigger (Pavlich as one)...twice in 2 minutes...very gutsy and selfless.
Dawson was good in fwd line and disagree that he is lumbering, he moved well tackled and presented...it was when the fwd line operated best all night actually.
Armo was great in last Q...game total of 13 contested possies...pity he missed that goal would have been deserved.
Milney exceptional , McQualter and Schneider very good too

I agree re: Armo's last quarter and Geary.
My humble thoughts ,, re: our forward experiment,
Fisher is not nearly as effective as a forward - he's a sensational defender, so I'd be playing him as a defender all day.
Dawson on the other hand was effective as a tall forward , created a couple of goals and competed well - he in fact did more positive things when he was moved forward.
Goddard was great - and as long as we can afford playing him forward we should.
Problem is he's such a great quarterback and midfielder that I still felt we might have been robbing Peter to pay Paul - even though he kicked 5 goals.

geary was a tank! his bumps and 1%'s were fantastic. Needs to settle on his kicks and except that he will cop some pain.
armo was almost insanely intense in that final quarter. Has the keys to be a very good midfielder

From memory Armo hada very big last quarter against the Pies too.
Great that he is standing up when games need to be won.

Don't they both hit the contest hard?
I love seeing Armo put his whole body into the tackle as he shoulder charges the opponent and knocks the stuffing out of them. He could teach his team mates a thing or two about tackling with your whole body, not just your arms.
Geary doesn't have great body strength yet, but he really throws himself into it. He'll really develop in coming years as he adds more size to compliment his courage.

Geary started last year like a man possessed and drifted later in the year. I hope he keeps it up and really cements his spot. He is holding Rob eddy out of the side at the moment and last year I would have had eddy slightly ahead of Gears.
I love the way he just crashes into every contest, he is not overly skillful but he just goes like a terrier and makes everyone look over their shoulder. The saints really got on top in the final quarter thanks to the application of pressure and the ability of guys like gears forcing every possession to be a contest for freo. He reminds me of a young bakes, just on the slightly manic side of normal.

There is a touch of a young Lenny about Armo. Perhaps with not such good disposal as this stage. His attack on the ball was so 'lennyish'- he must have really modelled his game on him. If he had kicked that goal that would have capped off his best quarter of footy of his life by a mile. It was still his best anyway. I said to a mate after the game that that was a real 'red letter day' for armo. He stood up when it mattered. Maybe it is also that Steven is now fit and pushing up.
