Hasn't Mick got it yet..........

I acted for greater good of the game Mick Malthouse From: The Australian April 14, 2010 12:00AM
ON Saturday night Collingwood will play Hawthorn in front of tens of thousands of excited fans at the MCG who are there for one reason: to enjoy the football.
>>>>>>>>>>
It was for the good of the game that I did not want to expand on the quarter-time incident in last weekend's St Kilda-Collingwood match.

No organisation is better for airing its dirty laundry in public, and football is the same.

The reason I denied talking to any St Kilda players when asked about the incident after the match was because I wanted to kill the issue stone dead.

There are many things said in football, particularly in the heat of the moment under pressure in tight, tough games, which are better left unsaid in public, and that's the way is should be.

We all know that racism and religious vilification is completely unacceptable and, quite rightly, will be dealt with harshly. There was none of that last Friday night and I am a strong believer that what happens on the field stays on the field. We all move on.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have apologised to St Kilda's Stephen Milne for my part in the incident and been fined by the AFL. I have no beef with Milne, St Kilda or the league.

In football there is always a game at the end of the week to prepare for and play. All those involved in football move on quickly regardless of what issues capture the imagination of the media during the week. We simply can't afford to look back.

It's a pity the Melbourne media cannot do the same.

Every day I have turned up for work this week I have been ambushed by a media pack. Why? What is left to be said?

Collingwood, St Kilda and the AFL have all issued statements on the matter and the weekly email I usually send to members after each match has been posted on the Collingwood website offering further clarification.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>
At the same time sections of the media now hold anyone with a public profile to impossibly high standards, as if they are a group apart from normal society.

I accept that in the football cauldron of Melbourne an AFL coach is the window to the club.

The reality is that the president and his board run a football club and the coach is just one of many employees, >>>>>>>>

It has always amazed me just how much exposure a football coach actually gets.
>>>>>>>>>>>
Anyone who has any doubt about the importance of the common good should study one of history's greatest figures, Winston Churchill. >>>>>
While I am only a footy coach I have the same simple philosophy. There are lots of things in football that don't need to be made public because the game would be the worse for it if they were.
>>>>>>>>>
Likewise, the game benefits if all those involved attempt to present it in a positive light.

I didn't think there was anything positive in talking about last Friday night's quarter-time incident after the game and I still don't.

^

Who does he think he is kidding?

If he thinks anyone at all, then the man is delusional.

Keep digging Mick, this is priceless.

"The good of the game"... is that what you thinking about at quarter time too?

He holds himself up as a moral and upstanding gentleman of the game when nothing could be further from the truth.

First of all theis "code" bulls***, if there was such a "code" it surley would dictate that some sledges are off limits, yes Milney apparently called Mick "old" so Mick decided to return fire with a disgusting comment, how very mature. Second his "I streniously object to being called a liar" comment, If he didnt want to be called a liar he shouldnt have lied, own up to your mistake instead of trying to explain it away through garbage statements and your president.

Honestly there are sewage plants that are less full of s*** than Mr Malthouse.

BANG BANG
Milney called him a "f...... old c...", which is true, but a bit more than just calling him old.

Was Mick's comment more disgusting than Milney's?

I don't know. It depends on your sensitivities.

The fact that Malthouse is the senior coach of an AFL club is the difference.

He should have been fined $50,000.
Well the word c..t is a pretty volatile word but IMHO "rapist" is way over the line.

I call my mates c..t ( as in whats up you crazy c..t) I would NEVER call them rapist

BANG BANG
Not sure I'm too impressed with Milne's homophobic comments to Licuria either. Whilst Milshake comes out of this episode stinking, Milney doesn't exactly come up smelling of roses either.

Not great to say in public at all... but I think in the context of someone picking a fight and saying "have a go mate", it's a pretty funny reply (and a fairly tame slang word for it)... and infinitely better than escalating with violence, as he was repeatedly implored to do.

Mick's message to supporters
Michael Malthouse 7:00 PM Mon 12 April, 2010
Collingwood senior coach Mick Malthouse

‘Mick’s Message’ is normally sent exclusively to Collingwood members each week, but Mick Malthouse expressed his desire for this week’s message to be published on Collingwoodfc.com.au, in conjunction with his email, for the benefit of all Collingwood members and supporters.

Dear members and supporters,

Following my apology for inappropriate comments I made to Stephen Milne, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the reasoning behind the initial position I took in the post-match press conference on Friday night.

When asked if I was directing comments at St Kilda players or my own players, I chose the latter option basically under the old code of what happens on the field stays on the field.

I largely took this decision based on my belief that, if I had said I was directing comments at a St Kilda player(s), this would lead to follow up questions such as “who were you talking to?â€

lol - now malthouse tries to equate himself with Winston Churchill.

This psuedo intellectualism from malthouse is hilarious. It is a known fact that Malthouse didn't finish High School and has no secondary, let alone tertiary qualifications.

This is a classic case of delusions of grandeur

and here is a nice little definition of the delusions thast Mick suffers from

"Also generally known as megalomania, delusions of grandeur is a term familiar to psychological discourse. They are known as the manifestations of a psychopathological condition in which a person has delusional fantasies of power, wealth, and omnipotence, thus the term delusions of grandeur. Individuals may also bear an obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions. Despite evidence to the contrary, they may still be convinced of these false impressions.

In clinical terms, delusions of grandeur are real delusional symptoms, which are irrational and inappropriate beliefs. Often found in patients with varying degrees of either dementia, psychotic or depressive disorders, they firmly possess unrealistic beliefs that may eventually harm them physically, mentally, or emotionally."

Oh BTW Mick, never heard it reported that Churchill ever called anyone a "f%%king rapist" even when he was meeting with that mass murdering commo mongrel Stain.

Idiot

It's water under the bridge now - am more interested in playing Freo than about analysing Malthouse's latest thickheadedness - but it can't be left unsaid that the qualifications within his statement are no more than dirty big spades digging a deeper and deeper hole.

The guy's ego has enveloped him.

Add to that his club's complete cluelessness about what normal people expect of organisational leaders...

Well, the whole thing beggars belief really.

Stuff them.

Churchill was involved in a big win in the mid-40s, not sure if he was the coach or the assistant coach however.

Yes, I only have a few things to say also

1. You chose to believe Mick Malthouse and wrote all off season on here that The St Kilda Football Club was lying about Luke Ball.

2. You also chose to believe Eddie McGuire, and Paul Connors and called Nick Riewoldt naive and insinuated that Ross Lyon was lying!

It is quite obvious that Malthouse and McGuire are habitual liars and will do and say anything to manipulate the truth!

St Kilda did not lie about Luke Ball, McGuire and Malthouse did!

IMHO you're incredibly naive and normally I would just ignore you but considering you've posted over 21,000 posts, that is not always easy, particularly when you start sprouting off that The St Kilda Football Club was lying and Malthouse and McGuire were telling the truth!

As for Mick, does he forget the he writes for the Australian, and gives special comments on SEN?

Media? You are one of 'them' now, while you continue to feel justified offering opinion and special comments on other football issues, other clubs, other players, other coaches...

Why then complain when others that share the same industry that you enjoy, would dare to do the same?

Well  to you Mick
