What contribution did Roo make on Fri night? Pretty much diddly. We still beat an apparent contender pretty comfortbly in the end. Why? Because we have a structure that is ingrained, disciplined hardarse players who never give up, and a top ten or twelve players that are the envy of every club because of their ruthless and unending committment.

Last Year Richo had surgery after rd 6 and attemped return in rd 20. That is 14 rounds out. The difference here is that Richo was 34 and Roo is 27. Thats 7 Years wear and tear difference. St.Kilda will do everything possible to get Roo fit and firing asap, so he SHOULD be back quicker than Richo was.

IMO, Considering all this information i think Roo may be out for just 12 weeks. This will mean he could be back for round 15! Giving him 7 rounds for match fitness and then a weeks break and into the important stuff.

Please nobody take that herald sun article seriously with Peter Larkins. This INFORMATION IS NOT FROM THE CLUB! Again its just some media w**kers speculating.

IF he does miss around 16 games it will make it harder to win the flag, but when the going gets tuff, the tuff gets going.

Surgery to repair Nick Riewoldt's injured hamstring has gone to plan, but the St Kilda skipper may not be back until after the split round in June.

Riewoldt has been discharged from a Melbourne hospital following the operation to fix a damaged tendon in his right hamstring.

The 27-year-old forward star was injured the Saints' 28-point win against Collingwood on Friday night

Thinline you are putting on a brave face however you are under-estimating the complexity that Reiwoldt's absence now poses. It besmirches out forward line set up and robs us of a sure fire target who will either have a shot on goal or be a kick away from a shot on goal.

We have nobody who comes even close to Reiwoldt's game style and people are kidding themselves if Stanley can come on in and be the lead up target and the goal kick all at the same time.

Kosi is now going to be our focal point for the year and I'm sure we will see his quality minus Reiwoldt considering he should be our goal kicker for the year. He is a traditional forward and he should do well.

For this week we have to rejig our forward line majorly. Do we go in short and allow Milne and Schnieder more space with a ruckman/tall? or do we still go traditional and have a full-forward, chf and a few smalls?

Michael Gardiner is another that needs to show that he is not all huff and puff this week and kick a few because given the time he is a quality contested mark. The Grand Final in 2005 should not be referenced to, that was a putrid game from him.

It is not all doom and gloom however it is not all rosey. Who cares about giving someone a chance now whilst we are up there.

The club's initial prognosis was that Riewoldt would miss about two months of AFL, although an expert has told News Limited the Saints captain could miss 12-16 weeks.

So that sounds bit more promising. I would ignore the "expert" as that is probably someone like Larkin who does not have any inside knowldege.

Thinline you are putting on a brave face however you are under-estimating the complexity that Reiwoldt's absence now poses. It besmirches out forward line set up and robs us of a sure fire target who will either have a shot on goal or be a kick away from a shot on goal.

What does the appoearance of my 'face' have to do with anything?

My rather simple point is that we simply have to find somebody who can at least fight to be what we now don't have.

Riewoldt is gone AND he's irreplaceable. There's bugger all we can do about that.

Equally, the amount of sorry arse moaning about what CAN'T happen due to his absence is rather pointless don't you think?

What CAN we do to overcome this hurdle? Reshuffle? Restructure? Reposition?

Surely given the absolute certainty that our leader is gone for a long haul - other than the fabulously fascinating prognosticating about how many weeks he'll be gone for - the far more useful thought should be going into wondering about what's going to happen next.

That's where my initial bellyache stemmed from.

So now that my rants done and dusted, my view on the future is that our forward structure will change pretty much weekly depending on opposition. In the past, we have had Roo and Koz, Milne and Schneider inked in. Now the likes of Stanley, Goddard, Raph Clarke, Gwilt, Gardiner, McEvoy, Lynch will be looked at on an as needs basis depending on whpo we play. Koz may do some rucking. Pinch- hitters like even Blake or Dawson will be employed. Hardly a fresh insight, but the prospect of what it may or may not uncover is far more interesting than hanging up a hat and say 'well F*** me now we're stuffed.'
