Good result for Milney and i would guess that is all he wants apart from a flag which should be our only issue this year.

But you said you didn't say anything to Milne.

MM did you lie to media.

When will you be apologising to the media.

Collingwood media statement
9:00 PM Sun 11 April, 2010
The Collingwood Football Club wishes to clarify issues arising out of the quarter-time break during Friday night’s match against St Kilda.

An incident in which a number of St Kilda players came in close proximity to the Collingwood huddle caused an exchange between several players and club officials.

Senior coach Mick Malthouse went over to instruct his players to remove themselves from the incident, during which time there was an exchange of unnecessary comments by both Malthouse and Stephen Milne.

“It was only after the match that I reflected fully on the events and my actions at quarter time,â€

They can word this anyway they like.
The whole football world now knows:-
1. Malthouse called Milne something inappropriate.
2. Malthouse lied to the media at the Press Conference after the game.

I think they should too, Bernard. They need to make a statement and make it loud and clear.

If they want the coaches to shake hands with the umpires then they need to nip this one in the bud too.

Fox Sports News did make a point of showing the Malthouse Press Conference where he denied saying anything to our players, so he does look like a goose. Well done Fox Sports.

Probably for the same reason you want to find out if GT refused more money for recruiting when he coached.

Both Club admins have handled this as well as they could.

However, it will be intersting to see whether the AFL still fine MM for bringing the game into disrepute.

There are precedants with Sheedy and Clarkson both being fined for abusing opposition players.

The rule is there to reduce the likelihood of an all in barney and the perception that it is OK for coaches and officials to abuse opposition players. This alway would filter down into junior football.

Is Collingwood still too big for the league to take any action against?

This is GOLD!!!!! Loving EVERY minute of it. Shown up for the complete piece of lying shite that he really is.

Well done to St Kilda for holding firm and not accepting anything less than an apology to Milne. Anything less would have been UNACCEPTABLE.

Onwards and upwards for the Saints in 2010! Maybe Luke would do well to give Collingwood lessons on our club motto:

Anyone got any ideas?

...and what about licuria - what sanction does he receive?

That is the exact reason why it is not really in St Kilda's interests to take this any further. I don't like what MM said to Milne, but Nick Maxwell on SEN yesterday am said that Milne is one of the biggest sledgers around - no surprises there - I'd suggest that whilst what MM said is beyond the realms of good taste, Milne is no angel either. You give it out you'd better be prepared to take a bit back.

A retraction from MM and a finish to the matter is as far as this one should go IMO. Oh, and the choreographing of the two statements has the fingerprints of one Eddie McGuire all over it...

Here is a copy of a post I put on Saints Central where I first saw the "apology". I just think MM is a creep. Another user of both sites (SC and SS) suggested I also post it here, so here it is.

Translation:

It was only after the match that I realised I'd been caught out and could be in a lot of trouble.

I now find myself in a position where my club has directed me to make this insincere apology, as any sensible person would understand that a coach of 27 years should have more integrity than to behave this way.

Although I have been made to apologise I want to say that "he started it", and furthermore the Collingwood football club will now try to deflect fault by graciously not taking the incident any further with the AFL, an action which would bring myself under further scrutiny.

As there is nothing that can be said that can possibly make myself or the club look good in regard to this incident, we will now keep our mouths shut and hope it all goes away.

The apology is nice. But I would suggest that the family friendly and politically correctness aware AFL will take a dim view of any alleged vilification - no doubt the nature to be uncovered during the investigation.

Any more sweeping under the carpet will push the lump over the height of Everest.
