nah, we were already lacking real tall forwards this week, and mcevoy hasn't shown that he's a real tall forward.Saintsfan wrote:Play McEvoy
if we're going for a like-for-like replacement then we need a player who can be a focal point. i'm not convinced that's any of stanley, mcevoy, pattison or cahill (and lynch seems to be injured) but hopefully one of those four puts their hand up tomorrow.

I did read somehwere that he had a virus and lost almost 8 KG, he worries me at the moment, if it were finals time ,I would be concerned he could cost us a flag.. hope he picks it up soon.jonesy wrote:There's rumours of Zac losing weight before the season through sickness,I'm not sure if it's true, but he certainly looks a shadow of his former self. Leave him to ruck and drift forward.
Gardi might not be mobile, but Kosi is hardly a ballerina...
Gards can take big pack marks, he does it often up on the wing when he gets a run, why not give him a game out of the goal square and see if he can emulate those marks somewhere that will do some serious damage? I know Freo has been playing well, but coming over to Melbourne I hesitate to say that I think we'll be on top of them, good time to do some experimenting. I also would bring Stanley in, if a criticism of him is his lack of game experience, tell me a better time to give him a game other than round four with Kosi and Roo out? Even if he plays terribly, we've shown we have enough players to win the game without Riewoldt againt Collingwood, I'd be surprised if we can't do the same against Freo without Stanley firing.

Agreed. Raph to go to HBF. Fisher to go to CHF - but would not surprise to see Blake and Zac also rotate thru CHF.Animal Enclosure wrote:For the one week we will be without both Roo & Kosi I think they will go with a makeshift smaller lineup with maybe Raph coming in & freeing up one of the half backs to go forward.
With Kosi back for the Port game it will be his time to make the forward line his own.
Stanley's time will come but I'm not sure it will be in the near future.

Sandringham belted Frankston by 49 points and young forward Rhys Stanley put his hand up for a senior recall at St Kilda in the absence of Nick Riewoldt.
Stanley was dominant in the ruck and around half-forward with other Saints Jack Steven, Raphael Clarke and Rob Eddy putting together a dominant performance in the midfield during the 15.12 (102) to 7.11 (53) win. Marc Westcott and Russell Gabriel were the best for the Dolphins."

Whatever the changes...the set -up needs to bea player that can work with Kosi back in the line up. This will count against Patto as the two are too similar.
Stanley and Cahill are better fits to work with Kosi. As I have already posted in an earlier thread my current preference with Zac out of form would be:
OUT Roo, Zac
In Raph and one of Stanley/Cahill
Post the Sandy game I would still go with this.

The side will be selected with Freo in mind.
You couldn't put Rhys as a rotating ruck/forward, he would get monstered by Sandilands.
Is he up to carrying a FF position, I haven't seen him play in Sandy to know if this is a possibility?
I personally think the likely CHF will be Fisher or Goddard, CHF is just such a crucial role.

I reckon don't fiddle with structure .. so Stanley who played well as a tall in blustery conditions should come straight in as Roo's replacement to play as a CHF.SainterK wrote:The side will be selected with Freo in mind.

He doesn't need to rotate in the ruck - we have King and Gardiner.
Big shoes to fill ... but he's tall and quick and we're not messing with our structure this way and Stanley can provide forward pressure and take a tall defender.

Who on our list wont be monstered by Sandilands? But he does have something that no other of our big men have. Pace. Bring him in. Also it would be interesting to see Sandilands trying to keep up with him.

Fair point. Gardiner has enough guile to win his share, but suspect King - if plays - will simply just run into him and try to wear him out physically.borderbarry wrote:You couldn't put Rhys as a rotating ruck/forward, he would get monstered by Sandilands.

Hi Barry. I never said don't bring him in, I said I personally wouldn't play him as rotating ruck/forward and would play him soley as a full forward if he is up to it...borderbarry wrote:"You couldn't put Rhys as a rotating ruck/forward, he would get monstered by Sandilands. "

He would not play ruck (apart from occasional contests in the forward line). So Sandilands is not an issue as Sandilands will not be playing as a defender.SainterK wrote:The side will be selected with Freo in mind.
