Someone posted on a forum that Aaron stated on the radio that he regretted the decision to leave carlton and he's heart was at the blues?

prob true as i think he always felt bad about the way he left the blues but in the end we got some real good years from him regardless of where his heart was ..... a true professional was sammy knew footy was his job and his love for his former club could only resume after his footy days were over so he gave his all for our club for aslong as his body would allow (a lot of the same feeling i think Kingy would have about the Cats )

He said it on 3AW last Friday, surprised me a little, but he didn't bag the Saints at all. He did give the best insight into our culture that I have heard though.

I did get the feeling he left with a bitter taste though, like he had been pushed or felt a little let down from our medical department. Didn't say so, just reading (listening) between the lines.

Still respect the man greatly, even if he is a bluebagger at heart....

depends on what context it was said.

saying he regretted leaving the blues is different to saying he regretted how he left the blues

Still love the guy for the commitment he gave to our cause, and would always consider him a true champion. Carlton's loss was definitely our gain, and the guy is entitled to feel affection for his first AFL club.....Hmm? I wonder if ONE day Mr. Ball will make similar comments

If what I have been told is true (and that was by a former Club Doc..) I am not surprised...though I would extend it to "conditioning".

I'm a little surprised by Hamill's reported comments as well. Not as if he came to the saints in the twilight of his career and played 2-3 seasons.

I'm sure his sentiments would be different if he managed to get out on the park and play well in some of the big finals we've played in. Almost every final we were in he was missing or was badly underdone coming back from injury. PLaying well in a big final and the team winning. There's nothing like it. He got to experience this at the blues.

If she could get your daks off faster than you could get hers off..... it was probably the same Gayle.

Please don't tell me you married her.

PM me her maiden name, and I'll confirm or deny.

Maybe I'll just deny.

Fair enough but disappointing.

Can't question his commitment to the cause when he pulled on the red white and black but it would be nice to have a former skipper declare himself a st kilda supporter rather than a blue bagger.

Is the 3AW interview likely to be "on-line" anywhere (had a quick look at their site but it didn't jump out).

Given that he was always well presented and spoke well I would have thought that Aaron may have gone into the media - perhaps he did not enjoy the MMM role he had following his retirement. Seems to get called on, along with Aussie Jones, to provide comment on the Saints now and then.

aussie is still with ABC and was the better of the calls last week

both 3AW and MMM have been to date awful with trying to get game day podcast and interviews uploaded.

I heard he was working 2 weeks at a time.

Find it hard to believe his heart would be with Carlton.....he said he regretted leaving, does that automatically imply that his heart lies with Carlton...?? Especially considering how little respect they he was shown by that idiot Elliot. The 'fitness' department at St Kilda at the time may have screwed him over, but he wasn't the only one........

interestingly he gets a spot in this video

http://www.afl.com.au/Video/tabid/76/vi ... deoPlayerB

doing the things we loved- tackle- push- goal

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx
and story

along with Vision of Kingy
King’s mentoring realm
Port Melbourne played Sandringham in a VFL practice match last Saturday and one of my old ruck disciples Steven King was going around for Sandy. He battled hard and gave his all. His shoulder is still crook, but he’s a workhorse. After watching young Ben McEvoy’s game on Saturday night I think King was a bit stiff to be left out of St Kilda’s team. King is already embarking on a coaching career as he is teaching the rucks at St Kilda. And he is looking to broaden his horizons into general coaching. Ross Lyon should keep him at St Kilda, but if King is interested in general coaching maybe Kevin Sheedy and West Sydney should get on the phone to him. King has a great presence about him, a charisma not many have. He has been in the system since he was 16 years of age and he has had his ups and downs. If you want an interesting story, ask him about how he got to St Kilda. It doesn’t reflect well on a present-day Geelong ruckman. It was strange telling players how to beat a bloke (in my role as Port’s ruck coach) that I had coached for seven years. King played all right and so did his opponent David Fanning. It was an interesting game.
