How many did Kosi kick last season 40 something as the second string forward. Who rates his abilities high? Productive but not spectacular year in 2009 but not many could play his role as well. Stanley is not realistically going to come out every week for 25 games and set the world on fire yet. The thing about the NAB cup games is that with Schnider up the ground and Mc qualter higher up the ground he looked like a lumbering giant trying to catch a mouse when ever he chased a spilled ball. How many genuine talls of Kosis size can you name that play well below their knees and can run and chase. He is never going to be Riewoldt but no one else is.

No established senior player, and Kosi is certainly that, is going to lose their spot based on some indifferent NAB Cup form.
If Kosi finds himself on the brink of demotion it will only be after continual poor performances during the H & A season.
However I have great confidence in him to play his role; certainly better than any of the possible replacements are able to at this stage of their respective careers.

BUT people I think are forgetting how good his first half of last year was. Just needs consistancy, thats whats missing from his game. No doubt the ability is there.
I actually (I think) agree with what GT meant..ie that Kosi is not performing up to his ability, but has the ability to be better
Kosi' 2009 was by and large quite reasonable but as iwantmeseats stated consistency is Kosi's biggest problem. He has too many games where he goes missing for too long.
I tend to think of Kosi as a big Fiora. Heaps of talent but lacks the mental application to apply himseld at a high enough level throughout a game, and in each and every week.
When the switch is on, both Fiora and Kosi delivered very well. But when the switch was off you would hardly know that they are on the field.
Kosi has over time delivered more than Fiora, but to me there are strong parallels between the two.
Kosi performs a useful role for us though as a second marking target, but if engaged he could be so much more.
Kosi needs to get that switch to on more often or he may just find Stanley squeezing him out in a year or two.
My Cure:
Well the coaches and our superhero kite-surfer need to work on his head-space would be to move Kosi to more of a CHF role, as it would get him into the game more.
I know GT wants him in the ruck...but Kosi at present is still a very poor ruckman, but yes an ok follower.
Kosi gets FF because Roo gets CHF. Now Roo is a much better player than Kosi..but I would play Roo deep...but not as a traditional FF. Rather Roo would use his aerobic ability to lead far and wide.
Kosi to be the linking player floating around the CHF and at times up into the midfield.
This would to my mind suit Kosi better as he would be in constant motion and more involved in the game. It would also see him less in the body on body contests which he is poor at which tend to happen at FF (or in the ruck).
It could alsos see him drift back to be a kick in target .

I understood him too Rodger, but wouldn't rate him up there with Martin Luther King as a great orator. Basically he was saying that Kosi has the ability but has to deliver this year. Maybe they can have you subtitle him when he speaks.rodgerfox wrote:It made complete sense to me.Milan Faletic wrote:I thought that too.Bernard Shakey wrote:As usual GT contradicts himself in one sentence.
There's obviously two elements to being 'overrated'.
One is 'does the ability exist to match the hype and/or expectation'?
And the second is 'is the current or recent performance matching the 'hype and/or expectation'?
What he said was (or the way I interpreted it) that the answer to the first part is 'no', and the answer to the second part is 'yes'.
I'd be surprised if anyone out there disagreed with that.

I don't think he's paid to be a great orator - he's paid because when he says things people react.Milan Faletic wrote:

For a long time I waited for Kosi to be a star. After that never happened I thought Kosi was overrated. Then I realised he is what he is - a reasonably skilled battering ram whose best and worst are miles apart. Still, I've always been glad he's not playing elsewhere.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Even when someone agrees with you, you have to have the last word.

I reckon this idea isn't far off. Although I'd be playing Ben a lot from full forward, to allow Kosi to get his hands on the ball around the ground, until he's in good enough form to go back to FF pretty much permanently.Milan Faletic wrote:Source: Footy Classified

GT: Him (Kosi) and McEvoy in the ruck is the answer I believe..
Kosi and Ben swapping between ruck and FF with hopefully Gardi being the other guy in the ruck (When neither of the other two are).
YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
If you listen to the recent Kosi interview on SEN, it's nothing that Kosi hasn't said himself. Expects to go into the middle some more this year if the game dictates it. He has also shed the kilo's and is building up his aerobic base to move around the ground some more this year.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:I reckon this idea isn't far off. I think you are misquoting him, or you heard a different interview to me.SainterK wrote:

He has improved his aerobic capacity because as a forward he has to run up and down the ground a lot, chasing players etc. Indeed everyone in the team has to do this now. This will also help on the ball...but is very much required as a FF. He has not improved his fitness to play ruck..he has improved his fitness as the gameplan demands it irrespective of where you play.
Gone are the days of doing a GTrain and just patrolling the goal sguare.

He looks a heap leaner to me. Maybe it's the weight loss that's effecting his co-ordination a bit. Remember when Lockett lost all that weight in Syney and looked uncoordinated? Such an important player would be great if he could get it together and be the dominant player we all hope.SainterK wrote:If you listen to the recent Kosi interview on SEN, it's nothing that Kosi hasn't said himself. Same interview I think, it's under the audio/media link somewhere on here.saintsRrising wrote:I think you are misquoting him, or you heard a different interview to me.SainterK wrote:

You are just reading my post as an entire sentence, perhaps I should have started a new paragraph for my second line?

St Kilda already have a good ruck division, and we already have depth in the ruck. What StKilda need from Kosi is to hold down a key forward position. Either that or Kosi has to make himself into a better ruckman than King or Gardiner to force himself into that position.
