Luke Ball Interview on The Footy Show - Opinions?

After years of following the Saints, a lot of teams which had "stars" and plodders making up the rest, it was easy to hero worship our good players. They were deified and told how good they were, but still no daytime silverware was achieved.

Now that we have measurable depth in our squad we don't have to resort to hero worship to make us feel good about ourselves. Luke Ball was unfortunately (for him and for us) playing in the wrong era, he would have slotted in perfectly 20 years ago being one paced and on the bottom of every muddy pack at Waverley and Moorabbin. The times have changed and I think some of supporters have to as well and really appreciate what is happening at our club at the moment. Luke Ball could certainly see what was coming and that his place was in jeopardy and he decided to get out in order to get a game where he was needed. With the emergence of Armitage and Geary I think he made the right choice.

Why should Ball have received preferential treatment?

I think maybe Ball got confused.
His junior coaches taught him that the Ball should be the centre of their attention.
He thought that because his name was Ball he would always be the centre of a teams attention.

Do you think that Roo has the shytes with him becuase he has not delivered what was expected from him since day 1.

And then to walk after all this club has given him was the final straw perhaps for Roo who knows really and who cares?

I am sick of his name to be honest, no longer a saint so move this thread to opposition forum.

Armo will show us how much time and money has been wasted on this bloke in 2010 IMO.

LB can spin it how he likes but the coach knows and he knows that he just aint good enough for saints football in 2010, up another notch for the saints and LB falls away to Lexus standards, all money and no show.

The "integrity process" was rooted by a fella named Thomas and his brain dead adherence to the love of a young man, who he'd kept captive to his bizarre attitudes to (and think of Prof Frink when I suggest this), GROINSSSSS.

It seemed to me, and has all the way through by the way, that he knew players were pushing him for his spot and as he was a player used to being in the elite of the club he apparently decided he didnt want to stick around and work hard to keep/earn back his spot. Rested on his laurels a bit and got punished for it, fair enough too.

To me it seems he decided the grass was greener on the other side and promptly took his ball (pun INTENDED) and sodded of somewhere else. The interview on the Footy Show all but confirms that to me. Claims he didnt want to leave are utter bulls*** IMHO if he didnt want to go he bloody wouldnt have.

Luke Ball is a Collingwood player and that is his crime and also his punishment

I totally agree as I loved the way this bloke went about his footy. He suffered a lot of injury to get the team the clearances. The head bandages of previous years said it all.

I hated the fact that he lost his ability to kick long and was generally slower than I first thought. He was known as a freak at Xavier college but the speed of AFL seemed to consume him up so he changed his style for best benefit but he would never meet Ross's need.

So overall Luke will be lost and the Filth will benefit and we will have a tougher time getting clearances that matter (ie when you get a player clear by clean handball skills). This aspect was shown up today.

As for Ball well Ball was Ball today in Mount Gambier. Would have been in the top 3 on the ground. 3 goals and a courageous mark running back into a pack and even drilled one from 45 suggests he is doing what we need to him to do and addresses an area we were deficient in.

Lyon got u to a GF largely without an input from LB so the club as a whole needs to standby the decision made by him and his board. Whether it be wrong or be right the club needs to be commended on holding its grounds for the betterment of the club whether Collingwood benefits or not.

I also found interesting some of his comments...

Like that the way he played and the way the saints play didn't match, which was a bit confusing IMO. It would seem the a hard ball winning tackling machine would fit perfectly into RL's plans, but again it comes to what he was being asked to work on, and the belief was that it was his ability to run and create.

So if that was the problem that was leading to the difference between the way he plays and the way the saints plays I don't understand why he wouldn't stick around and work on it. Is his body the issue? does he lack the the work ethic or would he rather go elsewhere and get by without having to improve etc.

Luke Ball is gone, I don't really care anymore as Armitage has the potential to be a better player than him anyway. However I will never have the respect for Luke Ball that I once had. He walked out on his team and IMO that wasn't acceptable. I've got a lot of respect for the Collingwood footy club, despite their fans behaviour over the off-season and I wish them good luck for the future (as long as it's to no detriment of ours) but I would love to see LB be forced out of the team by one of their youngsters.
