Surprise of the night was.....the excellent form of Smith.
Lookeda very likely type. I was most impressed. Great run and vision and some excellent dish-offs.

finally you guys are catching on.
I have been saying since they were drafted Stanley and smith have huge futures.
I repeat my very early call that Stanley will be a top 5 player for us in 5 years from when he was drafted and Smith will not be far behind.
Smith needs to keep building his AFL body

I think that most of us that watched Stanley play last year called him early.BackFromUSA wrote:finally you guys are catching on.

RL wants more pace, run and carry in the team.Batnoe wrote:Was great
feel sorry for him as we have a settled team
who will he replace
Lovett Gawn!!!
Peake has put his hand up...but Smith has too now... and could well play HFF rotatating through the midfield.

Hope your rumor is true young Alistair had a great game last night, very impressed with his game.IluvHarvey wrote:I heard a rumour that Smith will debut round 1 and......................don't worry
And can I say what a lovely young man he is, have got to speak to him at a Angels function one of four boys who has come from outback Perth a geniune bloke who I'm glad to see given a chance as he battled with injury last year.
In summary reminds me in personality of a young Lenny Hayes.
Well done Alistair looking foward to seeing more of you this year.

As I said once or twice last year, I had a good feeling about Smith and it just went through the roof last night. I've had a feeling he could be a bit like another Joey for us (not taken high in the draft, but has the goods and with hard work, reaches the upper echelon). With luck he could play 10+ years of top footy for us, on the wing, or in the middle. He seems to have everything needed to make it and it's great to hear that he's a top bloke, as well.
Genuine speed, evasive ability, very good skills and just seems to know where to go to get the ball. I love it!

Armoooo wrote:I would like to finish up with a bit of a rap for Alistair Smith, he probably impressed me most this afternoon. I believed that he was an athlete first and a footballer second, but after today I believe he is a competitor first and everything else next. He DEMANDED the ball, he was on of it no the most vocal player out there and he really surprised me. In one of the little training exercises they were practicing how to kick it to a contest in a zone, there were 3 attacking players and 2 players playing a zone defence, the point of the exercise was to hit your man in the zone but he would actually wait for players to make their leads or go out wide because he NEEDED to hit his target, everytime he was an attacker he'd give a loud clap when one of his team mate won the ball. He eventually got a speaking to from who I assume was Leigh Tudor about the point of the exercising being to try and kick it in the hole in the zone. But it was just so great to see a guy that really loves to compete and win. His skills were good enough and we all know he has the fitness and speed to play AFL, I now know he's got the attitude, I really hope he can develop into a good young player, I believe he may just need to put a bit of development into his decision making and ability to read the game but IMO he could very well have a future.
