We have an Intra-CLub game tomorrow...if the name calling and personal stuff continues when we have plenty of footy to discuss this time tomorrow..it WILL be locked and there will be some warnings handed out..

Lets see if the stirrers can think about footy enough tomorrow to let this either get back on track or sink quietly out of sight
So this thread is ok today, but wont be tomorrow? :?

More like: FLB

Didn't Ross make him Co-Captain, but Luke relinquished the responsibility?

Ross must have really hated him. Poor Luke.

OLB no longer stands for One Luke Ball, it's an abbreviation for One Lobotomised Buffoon as barks4eva has called me a number of times. TBH I'm trying to come up with something...

Good for me I brought it back On topic with my questions to OLB.

Does he Support the Saints and the Club or is he a Luke Ball supporter as his nic suggests?

Simple question. And On topic.
Apologies for not replying sooner, big fella. I actually just got back from the gym which, if you're unaware, is where people go to improve their cardiovascular health. They're pretty cool places which are becoming increasingly popular. They have treadmills, stationary bikes, weights and other equipment that some find useful when trying to either build muscle, lose weight or to simply become healthier.

You know, those places that you walk passed on your way to Maccas for your daily triple quarter pounder and 50 nugget meals. :D

Can see you getting huge in the upper body, changing into you Ed hardy tee shirt, jumping into your Chevvy Ute, putting KoL on and hooning all the way home.

See my sig, i am sure you would fit it perfectly.

But in reality by sounds of it you need to go to the gym, with you unhealthy obsession with junk food.

I bet you weigh about 130 kilos and are about 170 cms tall. Very sad how all the young boges like you are so fat so young

Not much of a life for the obsese 30 year old. Even the gals on RSVP wouldn't touch someone with your obvious frailities. :D

Oh well fatty, there is always the Jetstar tour of Thailand, you might score there, but hey, make sure your money is secure in your money belt under your huge beer gut :D :D

Actually change it to NaB, stands for New age Bogan :D

Now off to the Golden Arches with you, gotta keep that fat gut happy :D

in this instance,

I'm not sure how a thread on declaring my support for the Club, Coach and Captain got hijacked into a pyssing contest about whether rodgerfox is a troll or not?

And quite frankly I couln't care less if he is/isn't.

What he/she absolutely is though, is a master at taking positive threads about the Club and/or Coach and/or Captain and turning them into blazing flame wars which ultimately result in those threads being locked.

End result is that positive threads are closed down, which may well be what he/she desired in the first place?

And if that's the case, that's called manipulation and/or bullying to get your desired result.

YES I ALSO SUPPORT THE CLUB, COACH and CAPTAIN.

Well that will prove to be only a minor disruption to the unrelated drivel that's clogging these pages. Thank god we'll have something else to talk about in less than 24 hours!!!

Haha wow, really?

That honestly reminds me of when I was a kid and other kids would say, "I know you are, but what am I?"

"By the sounds of it... I bet you weigh..." It's hilarious, yet pathetic at the same time when people get defensive and start speculating.

But, I am 30 though, nice detective work. *pokes Joffaboy's stomach*

There's an old saying joffaboy - "truth hurts" - it rings true doesn't it? ;)

Anyway, time for dinner which, if you're unaware, dinner is... wait, who am I kidding?! You know very well what dinner is don't ya big fella? Haha oh, yes you do :)

Run along now. (if you get your heart rate up high enough you may even burn some cals)

If we are into block capitals, then I'd like to say

I SUPPORT THE RED, WHITE AND BLACK AND THE PLAYERS WHO WEAR IT

I also (to the diminishing extent it remains relevant) support the St Kilda district (ie, the southern/bayside suburbs). I don't know if I'd feel quite the same about our club if it became the North Queensland Saints or (even though I live there) the Tassie Saints.

Do I support the "club, coach and captain?"

For me, the club board and administrators are simply servants of the players, members and fans. I get excited when I see a Riewoldt or a Baldock walking down the street. The sight of a Plympton or a Westaway just doesn't do it for me in the same way. I want them to do a good job, but I also want them to remain in the background.

The captain, the leader of our players on the field, will always have my support: as will any past or present player who has given their all: even those who have gone to other clubs but continue to hold a place for the Saints in their hearts (as, for example, Winmar and Everitt do, and perhaps Ball will continue to do).

Coaches: yes, I support them too: although for me it's first and foremost about the players.

Finally, do I automatically believe everything these people who I admire so much say when they are talking to the media?

Nope.

I believe Riewoldt when he said that there was a contract on the table: I have never believed that there wasn't.

In regards to the club, I don't recall their putting out any sort of official statement about why Luke Ball chose to go, so I'm not sure what I'm meant to support in relation to them.

As for the coach's comment
''What we do is create an environment of coaching and a support network for our players and we pay them accordingly. It's really important to get the relativities right. We'd like to think Lenny [Hayes] and 'Rooey' [Riewoldt] are paid right up the top and then everyone falls in right behind them.

''At times, everyone sees the relativities differently. At the end of the day, there are a lot of elements that go into making a strong club and players wanting to stay and if someone's perception sits outside that a little bit, well they leave.''
if someone could explain to me precisely what that means, I'll have some idea of whether I can support it or not.

If it means that Luke left for more $$$, then why didn't Lyon simply say that?

I think what he might have been trying to say that Luke was initially upset about his (alleged) $600k per annum not being maintained in the new contract, but that the club had no choice but to reduce it because they didn't want to go on paying him anything like as much as they were paying Riewoldt and Hayes.

All fair enough. But that all happened in July 2009. So, as I read it, Ross's comment doesn't really cover what happened between July and October.

So, to sum up, I certainly support the idea of the club initially offering Ball a contract of around $350k per season: it sounds about right to me. I also am pretty certain that Ball iniitally rejected that offer.

What happened after that, why the club and Ball couldn't come to a subsequent agreement, how Ball reacted to being dropped and later under-utilized in the GF, why the club didn't seem to want to try too hard to woo Ball into staying for less money, are questions to which I don't have the answers.

The club hasn't bothered to explain it properly to me or anyone else. Which makes me suspect (because I have spent quite a lot of my life working in the communications business) that there was a bit of a stuff up.

But enough of this, the season is about to begin. :D
