Yes it was Blight, not Watson!SENsaintsational wrote:Didn't Malcolm Blight play Hall in defence in 2001?saint66au wrote:Key word here..THINK....Who has an opinion they think isn't correct?
Of course we think we are correct, but every week hundreds of people go to games (and post here ) who genuinely believe that the lil bit of football knowledge theyve gleaned from watching AFL games or coaching their kids U 9's team puts them on equal footing with a senior AFL coach
History will show Tim Watson not to have been a great coach, but he was eminently more qualified to do the job than anyone on this Forum. If he wasted to play BBBBH in defence, no-one here or any fans in the crowd had the credentials to actually tell him he was wrong.
Didnt stop the "God anyone who think Barry Hall is a defender has no idea about football" cries...and thats VERY different to "I dont think Barry Hall should be played in defence"

I certainly recall the team as a whole going extremely badly under Blight. I recall Hall doing some ok things down the back. But it was a long time ago and I don't seem to have any tapes, so I can't really defend what I said.joffaboy wrote:Shocking. I support the club no matter who coaches us, gets sacked or plays for us!
Unlike some others here I think the game is a fantastic spectacle.
I love the colours, the club and its history and have enjoyed the brilliance of our players and the humour and character of our supporters.
What a strange and passionate mob!
All we need now is another flag - the time is nigh!

Hold up...
Are we really discussing the idea that St Kilda supporters are blind sheep?
If anyone were to suggest that to me and I wanted to prove them wrong, I'd just invite them to a game...
My (Moorabbin Wing) seats are in front of a group of older Saints supporters who clearly care a lot, and have for a long time. Their seat aren't reserved. They get there an hour+ early every week to ensure they've got choice. You've got to respect that.
On the other hand, they regularly annoy the $hit out of me! "Man up"(rd 20 q4 - they haven't manned up at a kick in all year), "get on your man" (any time there's a loose opposition player), "kick the bloody thing" (if more than 10 seconds elapse without a kick), "worst free kick ever" (for the 3rd time that quarter), "look, nobody near him!" (for either side, pointing to someone 90 meters from the ball).
As is probably evidenced on here, I love the strategy and tactics of football, the change and evolution of it. Still, I wouldn't go every bloody week if I weren't emotionally involved (I was one of the people who though mid '08 that Lyon was done - glad to be wrong, don't feel stupid about it, pretty sure I'm not a sheep)...
but I think of the guys behind me as the iconic Saints fan: habitually believing their team will be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory because they've been conditioned to it by way to many hard years... but they go, they barrack, and they support regardless. The classic Saints supporter may be pessimistic, at times whiny... but we're stoic, and we're loyal.
and we're anything but sheep.

Funnily enough I too hear those same people, and yes occasionally they set my teeth on edge too. I have less patience than you though and Ive been known, as a speculative long kick has landed in the arms of the opposition, to turn round with "There ya go..happy now???" which sadly leads me to mumbling apologies at the next break, blaming "the heat of the moment". Youre right, these folk are the heart and soul of our Club. They pay their dues and they can barrack (with the exception of outright abuse) as they choose
My resolution for 2010 is to remember that "in the heat of the moment". Should I not, feel free to lean across and remind me of this post

Supporting this club is no different to being a parent or a spouse.
You're in it for the long haul. You ride every bump and bruise. You share the joys and share the pain of failure. You tolerate their annoying habits. You crtiticise them, you get angry at times. You get annoyed and frustrated. But you also forgive them their mistakes.
Through good times and bad, you stick phat and support them.
That's what makes it special. That's what makes our supporters special. It's our passion and our resilience, and blind faith that one day we'll be Premiers.
God I love this club!

Poor Yipper.yipper wrote:Definately said Lyon was the best coach he had played under - ever. It was a stunning statement coming at a time when there was some angst about our "style".
Repeated the comment at the Best & Fairest night of 2008 - we all heard it. Except you obviously RF!!!!
Harvey was pushed in two separate interviews about his coaches. The intention of the interviewers was clear - to see of Harvey would fan the 'GT is a monster' flame.
He responded interestingly I thought.
He was asked to compare Lyon to 'other coaches'. Clearly a loaded question as the GT thing was still making headlines.
He answered saying that he thought Lyon was a good coach and the club was in good hands. He said he was the best 'preparer' for games he'd played. He prepared for each match and opposition better than any coach he'd had.
He did not say in either interview that Ross Lyon is the best coach he'd ever had.
I've pulled B4Eva up on this lie when he's tried to use it before. But it seems he's still keen to try his luck on the old 'if I keep saying it eventually the morons and suckers will believe it'.
I guess he got you on that one.
Harvey's further response to the question was that his most enjoyable time he'd had at the club were the 'Thomas years' of 2004-2006.
That's what he said.
So don't look like a fool trying to support another liar just to try and get one back at me.
I'll wait patiently for the apologies from all of you.
Could you please give me a link to both interviews, I would be intereswted in seeing who has a handle on what was said.rodgerfox wrote:Poor Yipper.yipper wrote:Definately said Lyon was the best coach he had played under - ever. Two people whom I know have categorically said that Harvey said Lyon was the best coach he had ever had.
One, anonomous computer generated avatar, calls them liars, but dowsn't back it up with hard evidence.
Until you have corroborated evidence, dont come on here accusing people of lying, it makes you sound like a petulant schoolboy.

Prove your accusation. The burden of proof is on you.
If you dont have a link, your accusation is baseless and cannot be proven.
Link please or stop calling people liars.
You made the accusations.
let the forum see the link - if you have one.

They are lying if they claim that club legend, Robert Harvey said in an interview that Ross Lyon is the best coach he's ever had.
If you think I have the slightest urge to prove anything to a chubby little accountant, then you are in for a rude shock.
I had no idea that you make stuff up on a forum and it is considered true by sad and angry adults unless someone proved otherwise.
What a bizarre and odd world we live in.
