Yup. Please.
One thing in its favour..... over three pages of vigorous debate and no-ones called anyone else a Dhead or a Fwit.
Probably because everyone from the fence-sitters to the lynch mob wish there was no reason for it to exist. :(

Besides, fwit is a pretty lame insult, f***wit.
My insult of choice has been 'bubble headed boobie' for many years....

In my line of work if there are serious accusations and police investigations then the person is usually placed on paid leave. If not charged they then return to work.
If there are issues between employees these are dealt with through mediation and counselling. No one can be dismissed unless a charge is proven. This is the case with all professionals AFAIK! Lawyers, doctors, managers, teachers, nurses, psychologists, judges, police etc..
Why should this be any different?
The Carey case is not relevant because it went on for a long time - involved marriage and children and established mateship. No similar association exists here - since obviously the girl was more involved with a player from another club - and she did not ring triple O herself. The closest person was apparently another footballer not present.
A good administrator would want them (employees) working through the problem unless there is a proven criminal act.
Lovett should play if no charge is laid.

Nothing is obvious in this situation. And how do you know the above comment to be obviously correct?

Because we know he was an ex BF and that HE rang the cops. This has been published and I believe confirmed by police. It is one of the few "facts" I thought we knew.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

The allegation of racisim is valid one - IF some of the comments on here have been dubious. I have read none. What have you read G.O. that leads you to believe that racisim may be at work here?

I will openly admit that I didn't want the club to recruit AL, but it had nothing to do with the colour of his skin. Who can afford to be racist when there are games of footy to be won? Why would anyone limit the club to caucasian players when aboriginals have proven that they can more than compete at AFL level and have added so much to our game?

I am however, prejudiced against dic*heads. Without having never met AL this was my opinion from the outset of him and sadly he has does nothing to change that opinion. I was prepared to give him a go once the club recruited him - I couldn't afford not to. As some have said, you gotta trust the club and what they're doing. Even after being found drunk I thought that hopefully he would pull his head in.

I fear that he will be nothing but trouble as his history has suggested. My opinion is that we cut our losses now as he's no Tony Lockett/Gary Ablett/ wayne carey. We as a club can't afford to carry a good outside runner who continually finds himself in trouble with police. He is NOT our saviour, but could poss have been another piece in the puzzle - nothing more.

Having said that. I trust RL and the footy committee to make the right decision about him. If they keep him on board I will not bag AL openly at games and hope he plays well. And I will hope like hell that I am wrong about him.

There have been assertions that the alleged girl was more allegedly involved with an alleged player at our club.

Allegedly.

As I say, nothing at all is obvious, easy, straight forward or normal with this situation. Not even close to the Stokes situation in complexity or the Carey situation with seriousness.

OK so you are discriminatory against drunks and di#kheads -if we sacked these people from our workplaces - where would we be in this country? What about Hurley and Stokes?>
We would have about 30% unemployment for a start! And maybe no amateur football and what about the supporters. 8-)

Which is why I can't afford to not back the club. They normally control the DH's and the drunks. THe one's they can't control should be moved on, unless they are in the 1% of players who are irreplaceable. Lovett is not in that category. Even then it's often a close call. His behaviour, not just at the saints, but since he debuted has been too overt for my liking as well.

BTW - Hurley stuffed up - I'm not prepared to label him just yet. Same with Stokes, although he has stuffed up in a major way.

Yeah OK SS point taken but if my wife or GF felt (was treated) this way I doubt she would ring up an ex in the first instance. It makes no sense. The fact that the lady was pissed off shows that some sh*t went down with some certainty though. I can imagine that if one of our alleged players was involved and felt that whatever happened was not an accident that violence might transpire - but I have not heard that.
I do not mind saying that I have had quite a colourful life - yet this seems very strange in so many ways.
Also I think the Stokes thing has a higher potential to be a minefield of volcanic proportions.

We know she called Jack Anthony, but we don't know how much time elapsed before she made that call. We don't know that it happened immediately. Could've been a hour later.

But that's just it. We don't know.

Agree on the Stokes call, btw. Big in a different sense.

Yeah well I reckon we might be about 5% off a GF win - like we were last year. WE need a player who is an automatic selection - to exceed what LB was offering. We might have this in another player - but I have seen AL play and he can be insanely brilliant.
I am not happy to just throw away what he can offer .. the irony here is that he is sort of a similar player to Gram - but arguably better. [waits for excessive reaction and personal abuse]

As for Hurley - he allegedly dragged a cabby out of the cab and beat him up didn't he? Is that admitted yet? If that is the case he should be banned from the game if we expect footballers to be our moral guardians in this f*cked up world. Otherwise we should look at them as they did when Captain Blood was around - as generally uneducated thugs and bullies who play footy - and just get on with it.
Stokes is out on bail - and been told to get a full-time job - I thought he had one :?

what a fkn waste this whole exercise......Lovett IS exactly the type player we needed......geezus this this is so dissapointing in a year where we needed to be at our best.

No 1 player is the GF difference...they are all a piece of the puzzle.....Lovett was a piece we needed.
One player does not make the difference, unless it's Spider in the '97 GF.
spider was playing crap then....he getting injured against brisbane sent leowe into the ruck who got us over the line..spider except for a coupla purple patches that he lived on throughout his career was over paid/rated

Always looked like he could be anything but continually disappointed

I agree with you SS - and I guess all we can do is wait and see. Yet all of this speculation is going to continue regardless I suppose, no matter what happens. Mostly, I just do not like the hanging squad on here - the "he will never play again" - when it seems so premature at the moment.

My point exactly.

This situation is all very strange.

Two and two are not adding up to four, and nobody can explain why.

Was Lovett set up, was it a race thing, what is the involvement of senior players and coach of the club in all this, have sponsors threatened the club, why would the club risk a legal action of several million dollars in maintaining its hard line stance? ....... so many questions and no answers.

Something is being covered up here.

The accusations against Lovett a case of racism?

Absolute bollocks IMO (and I've been lambasted on here in the past for having the temerity to suggest that some of the critics of Raph Clarke were racially motivated (a view I continue to hold).

But Lovett? This is the guy alleged to have imprisoned his ex-gf in a car and made her fear for her life. That's the aspect of Lovett that is creating any "prejudice" towards him by forumites. Not his race.

It's bleeding obvious to me Grumpy One. So why you go on and on about race is hard to fathom. Perhaps you're the one with the race problem. I found your carry-on about the photos of sponsored players last year a bit odd too.

Perhaps, in your heart of hearts, you've got some ill-will towards our coloured brothers. Which you externalise by accusing others of racism?

As the old saying goes: it takes one to know one.

No one wants to talk yet, sure - but IMO you have "flown off the handle" a bit here .... no one has suggested any sort of set up and I do not believe it at all.

Only seems confusing to us b/c we don't know all the facts. Although I don't reckon it's nearly as convoluted as you're making out. He was arrested by the police for a very very serious offence. Players from the club were present and have more than likely told the club (and police)what they know. Based on this the club have suspended Lovett awaiting the outcome of an official investigation , in which time he will remain suspended, sacked or return to the fold.

Who says the club is risking a multi million dollar law suit? I reckon the club will work something out with Lovett eventually however it turns out.

And this is what confuses me about this entire episode. He has a reputation and two girls go back with two guys - one of which is him. Then somehow allegedly there is a mistaken identity situation .... and people seem to go missing (in the stories on here) :? And then a Coll player is called! And this is JGs girl? WTF?
How do people explain this to their kids?
