He's off to a flyer at Collingwood.
Ball was quiet during the practice match, although Brown felt he did enough.

"He got through unscathed and had some good quality touches and some good strong tackles, all the stuff that you'd expect from him and you want from him," he said.

What are you on about. I am sure that even the people pissed off with Bally wouldnt even slightly wonder if Ball had his heart in playing for us. He gave it 100% a 100% of the time.

Ball IMHO probably sulked like a prima donna private schoolboy having been mollycoddled and paid way over the odds at $600,000 a year and treated like royalty and took exception to having the riot act read out to him,

Lyon would not have liked the way Ball handled the dressing down,

a contract was offered to Ball about one month later which reflected his worth, $350,000 a year for 3 years,

Ball chose not to sign and teammates like Goddard for example during the season, tried to convince Ball to stay,

it would appear his mind was made up, he didn't like the way Lyon spoke to him,

Lyon didn't like the way Ball responded to criticism,

Ball's gametime suddenly was reduced and he was eventually dropped from the team and he continued to sulk back at Sandringham in the VFL,

previously, McQualter had received a massive spray from Lyon and was even delisted at the end of that particular year,

he is now in the leadership group, through sheer guts and determination to prove that he really does have what it takes,

his career could have ended then and there on the scrap heap, but he dug deep and it's a real credit to him,

as for Ball, he walked

I believe.
Every time he stepped on the training track or a game, he put in 100% effort.

Unfortunately the last few years didn't allow him to play up to his own lofty standards set earlier on his career.

He was an average overpaid footballer in the last 3 years he played but still gave it everything.

That is not what he saying. His point is we lost Ball for nothing. Once we knew he wanted out we should have taken pick 30. Well i am speaking for him but I gather that is is his point from what he has posted before.

Anything subsequent IMHO would have resulted from the way in which Ball handled criticism!

Ball gets read the riot act, FAIR DINKUM > two interchange breaches, the only player to actually infringe and in such a tight game with us running down the clock 8 seconds before 3/4 time and hey presto goal to Carlton,

Lyon would have been very angry,

IMHO I believe Ball didn't cope too well with the way he was spoken to by Lyon and things never recovered from that moment,

& furthermore Lyon did not like the way Ball responded to the criticism!

Then interestingly enough he started getting less game time, make of it what you will!

I was referring to Gary taking him at his word when Thomas said "I will step aside if I think there is someone better to do the job" and naively believing that spin!

Gary wrote a couple of years ago that it was his understanding that Thomas would have stepped aside if he thought there was someone better to coach St Kilda!

Any clearer for you?

AFL: Malthouse hits back at Saints over Ball

Article just appeared on newswire. Won't post in full but hopefully someone can post a link when one of the majors posts the story to their website. Seems to be linked to an SEN interview, but bit of a nothing story really. Basically Malthouse questioning Riewoldt's comments and saying Ball knew he wasn't wanted.

"He's only got great memories of St Kilda and he'll retain those
great memories because he has been a captain, he has been a player
who's bled for the football club, he's been injured playing and got
out there and still played, he's got a lot friends back there,"
Malthouse said.
"He doesn't want to make an issue of it, and that's the way it
should be.
"In football it's a short part of your life overall, it's
massive while you're doing it and he just wants people at St Kilda
to know that he gave his all and now he's moving on."
AAP rhv/jds

Given what RL says the offer on the table was, people would be complaining either way. If we'd taken pick 25 and drafted Mitch Duncan rather than getting Will Johnson at 77, would anybody really be that much happier with our list?

No 100% guarantee's MCG, and it's an unfair expectation of the club IMO.

And despite all his short comings being constantly listed, I think he finished 3rd in clearances this year
