The Australian 28/01/2010. Report by Greg Denham : Flush Saints on track for 40,000 members.
St Kilda's new postive financial position continues to gain momentum following last year's grand final appearance, with rank and file support well above expectation.
After the Saints' first grand final presence since 1977, expectation remains high with 26,000 members having already signed, 7000 up on the corresponding time last year.
After winning 22 of its 25 games last season, including its first 19 straight, chief executive Michael Nettlefold said about 13% of that figure was new membersships.
St Kilda which is in its final season of being based at Moorabbin, is now heading into new territory as it appears certain to break the 40,000 mark after last year's record 33,522 figure.
"We budgeted for 36,000 and we'd be delighted if we're heading for 40,000, Nettlefold said. "I'd like to think taht this is a good momentum going into a new season."
The Saints are also up 1,000 on children's memberships after cutting prices from $60 to $40, and have started selling season seats on level three at Etihad Stadium for the first time to cope with demand. Reserved seating is up 16% on the same time last year and socaail club membership (10,000) is all but sold out.
The Saints on field resurgence last year went a long way towards the club recording a profit of $177,335 following consecutive losses of more than $400,000 in 2007 and 2008.
Last year's result included a one-off AFL payment of $800,000 to compensate the Saints for their poor home-game returns as they were the most severely affected tenant at Etihad Stadium.
However, with new deals completed at the two Melbourne venues, St Kilda, all up, will be at least $300,000 better off in 2010 with it''s MCG and Etihad Stadium contracts.
The Saints' new $11 million elite training and administration facility at Frankston is expected to be ready by August, with the club set to relocate later in the year.
There you are Saint66au............ excuse any typos, I'm not a touch typist so the 2 fingers sometimes get infront of what the brain is reading from the paper.
And I thought we were going to Seaford.......not Fankston....silly me aren't I just a duffer

maybe look hereMilton66 wrote:Just got an email from the club that the 2010 packs have arrived and are being distributed.
Interesting that they state we have 25,000 members already.
Can some one compare to this time last year?
I'd be dissapointed if we didn't at least break 37-38,000 this year.
Cheers.

From memory I usually get two packs.....One from being a saints member, and the other from being an afl....
I definitely get two scarfs every year!
In fact, the card from the scarf comes in the pack....so yes afl members do get packs like a normal member.
