So the club must decide soon as Court decision could be months away.

As a club we took Lovett with full knowledge of his past . If he had no history then possibly he could return and train etc pending the Court decision. The fact that he has stuffed up twice in two months seems that he could be a recurring problem and precisely why Essendon just got sick of it and let him go. The Saints have fared no better in rehabilitating him.

Perhaps we should leave him 'suspended ' and concentrate on the team and our 2010 tilt at the flag. A year out of the game and the Court issues dealt with then 2011 is another issue.

On the other hand IF the club / committee are convinced no charges will stick AND Lovett will 'behave' then a risk could be taken . This seems a long shot .

Conclusion ...forget 2010 and Lovett , we have other players up and coming .........Lets move on ..

And seriously, does anyone really think Ross Lyon would allow him to be the unaccountable shirker that he's been for his entire career?

.....I think it would have taken a guy like Lovett 2-3 seasons to learn how to play footy the way Lyon wants it.
In this respect I agree completely with Rodgerfox. However not sure it would take 2-3 years. Took Farren Ray virtually no time at all......But agree that Lovett is very overated by many on this forum. I'm just hoping we get a chance to find out!
Completely agree, Lovett is overrated - inconsistant outside type who looks flashy when someone gets the ball out to him - haven't seen much of his defensive action or 1% ers

I don't think Ray's 'problems' at the Dogs were an issue in terms of Lyon's style.
Don't you? Gee I do. He was a skilful outside runner who didn't have much of an inside game at all. In fact when he first arrived at the saints this was the exact thing that was pointed out to him. That is, yes we need your outside run and flair, but without the grunt when it's your turn to go and without the continual workrate required you won't be much use to us.

To his credit he displayed all that this year. I reckon Lovett is in the same boat. Skilful outside runner with average workrate. However is faster than RAY and probably more likely to set up plays for us. Although w/o pushing himself harder, and executing more chase down tackles/applying pressure, then he doesn't fit the mould of a Lyon player.

I reckon if you analyse the three players, Dal, Lovett and Ray there is one common factor - they are/were a bit lazy. Dal took longer, I agree, however I reckon Lyon didn't really start pressing him until his second year of coaching where he started to assert himself far more with the senior players.

It would have been fascinating to see what Lyon could have got out of Lovett - but I agree with your original statement and that is as it stands at the moment I believe he is over rated, for what he brings to the table and what we are reputedly paying him.

I think it's abit too early to be overly melodramatic. People tend to forget the Milney and Joey episode. I think we will have a better idea in the next fortnight, so I would recommend that everyone gives it a break until we hear more information.

When he asked to be traded and put a price on his head, he asked for 500K a year from prospective clubs. IMO at 200k too much. I'm not sure whether it's the same rules as the draft and you have to pay the player what he has nominated, but in any event you would think the figure would be in that ball park.

I think it was mentioned that we are paying him around 350k. He agreed to lower amount to play in a top side apparently.

Ironic.

Right now he'd be hoping just to play.

Do any of those with a legal/police background find it interesting/strange that he would be driven to the interview by his high powered QC and not have him in on the interview with him (as was reported)?

Or would the QC have been there in case charges were laid then and there?

Even if the barrister wasnt in on the interview I am sure his advice would have been given on the ride in and hopefully it was ringing in Lovetts ears.

If Lovett just gave a no comment interview it would have been the alleged victims word against no body's

It would look far better for him if he provided his version of the account without any visual solicitation, as he has done.

Think you can cross a line through his name. Some of the players are threatening not to play if he isn't chopped

I appreciate what he has allegedly done is disgraceful but in all seriousness what are we running here? a co-op footy club where you get paid to be a professional footballer but still get to decide if you want to work?

Are we still in the 80's?.....is the club really still run by players?....I thought we'd moved past that...

Leave the sacking/dismissal of players to club management who have all the facts - players focus should be on training for an upcoming season that could be one of our most vital in years when you consider where our list is at with its "premiership clock".

You would hope that the players are professional enough these days. Just as they play after a coach is sacked, they should accept the board's decision if they allow Lovett to play.

At the end of the year, anyone disgruntled can ask to be traded.

Just because he plays, does not mean they all have to be bosom buddies.

But then again, if the "other" player knows what happened, and the worst did "happen" then it can be a tricky situation.

Unsure which players. Source is a player, coming from him was probably a throw away comment though.

I doubt any of them will walk as it won't get to that, just they'd have the sh!ts atm. Then again,if the allegations on Lovett are correct, who would play with him? So not really suprising

I reckon if the other player knows the intimate details of what occured or the worst did happen....Lovetts stuffed and the club will make that call - not the players job for mine.

I hear what you're both saying but I'd reckon that Roo, Lenny and RL will decide what happens between them.

We are not still in the 80's. I don't know know where you were then, but the players had no say in the 80's.

Have you not noticed that the flavour of the month is now leadership groups. The players have a very big say in what goes on these days.
