Just spotted this article that says Lovett is expected to be charged. Doesn't sound good....

Depends what the DPP says who wouldn't even have had the interview info yet.

what does "charged on summons" mean?

there are a number of ways to bring a defendant before a court

...on a warrant or simply in custody and brought before the court..., bailed to appear ....or summonsed to appear....on a summons matter , the defendant is not formally charged until they appear before the court....

And remember one further thing regarding the AFL and Cousins and the precedent.

Cousins has never tested positive, never been charged with a serious crime, never heard a third party (to my knowledge).

Suspended 12months.

Lovett could be potentially charged with two of the above three acts shortly.

No way the AFL will let St Kilda play him IMO if he's charged, regardless of what St Kilda want to do. He's got to be AFL registered first.

I agree with a lot of this.

If charged I can't see him playing until it is resolved.

That said just being found not guilty won't necessarily be enough to have him playing AFL footy again.

To be convicted by the courts, and by extension be deprived of your freedon, you have to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, the standard of proof to deregister an AFL player is not that high.

No matter how this plays out there are no winners in this, let's just hope justice is done, everything else will sort it's self out following this.

My view expressed above is that the AFL will have a big say in the way St Kilda handles this situation.

The precedent was set with Ben Cousins. He had broken no rules but was arrested and charged. Sacked straight away by West Coast and then suspended for 12mths by the AFL (deregistered most likely).

And then the charges were dropped.


Make no mistake, if Lovett is charged, he will be suspended pending his court case at the behest of the AFL. Whether he is found guilty in the long run will be largely irrelevant, because the AFL will not allow a charged alleged sex offender to wear the AFL logo.

The AFL would prefer not to be seen as the ones making the decision as such will do everything in their power to change our minds if we don't initially agree with them.

I think it is you who doesn't get 'it'. I was taking the p1ss out of Charlie Sheen ( who I am pretty sure won't get to read this, nor will his wife) who is in a bit of trouble with the law. A laughing stock as it were.

In no way did anyone try to make light of his alleged crime, his relationship with his wife, his wife's terror, his wife's alleged drug use....simply aligning Charlie with the AFL and making light of his current public image.
