Pies say they are top two
From HS "Buoyed by another successful training camp in Arizona and the recruitment of Darren Jolly and Luke Ball, Malthouse says his club is better prepared to challenge Geelong and St Kilda.
"We know the best two sides played off, there is no question about that statistically and the way they played throughout the year," Malthouse said .
"We are some distance at times from them and other times we are very close to them.
"We believe our recruitment has brought us a little bit closer and we believe the maturity of the younger players who have played first, second and third years with us will be better again"

he has to say that or all the feral fans will stop going to the footy and Melbourne's Crime rate will sky rocket. Mick is just doing the community a favour by keeping the crooks optimistic.

Did you leave out the bit where he said they would be top 2? I can't see it.aussiejones wrote:From HS "Buoyed by another successful training camp in Arizona and the recruitment of Darren Jolly and Luke Ball, Malthouse says his club is better prepared to challenge Geelong and St Kilda.

When I go altitude training I take an oxygen bottle.
It makes me feel top too.
I think Collingwood may be suffering from altitude sickness.
They will need to re-assess once they get their heads out of the clouds.

I think it's fair enough to be honest. They have quite a young team. Ball and Jolly will significantly improve them, I expect Ball to have quite a good season with more game time and the hunger to proove himself.
With an improved midfield, the defence can be a lot better as they are helped out and under less pressure.
Thier biggest worry is they rely on Presti a fair bit, and they don't have great quality talls up forward.

From bigfooty atm
Worst five on the playing list
Picking up from the thread about the gaps in our list closing, I thought this would be a reasonable way to judge the state of our current list. It was said to be St Kilda's strength last year, having an even list with few poor players. It was also a big improvement in their fringe players (15 - 25th) from 2008 which stepped up: Jones, McQualter, Clarke, Armitage, Eddy, and a few others.
Supporter replies:
There might have been a big improvement in their fringe players, but they still had a bunch of fringe players. St.Kilda are actually one of the last teams I would have though of as even. They have a ton of A-graders, and then a fair bit of filler.
Bulldogs or Adelaide would be a better example of a team with good depth 1 through 22, and I think we're in a similar boat.
No idea!
