Brian Royal on Saints Coaching Panel
Saw him coming out of the social club this afternoon decked out in all his StKFC gear. Nothing mentioned anywhere else. Anyone know anything about it? Maybe a development coach?

He spent 5 years at Richmond with Terry Wallace as the development coach....
maybe he had nothing to work with in the first place, but gee, hard to find
even one player that they developed in those 5 years...
good luck to him.....
does that mean one of the Danny's (Sexton or Ryan)have left the club...

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

A right royal ......... up!
He was an assistant coach at Richmond and Melbourne - does the club really need to teach St Kilda's young kids how to tank?

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I wouldn't be too worried, Richmond and St Kilda have totally different cultures and systems in place.Spinner wrote:Development at Richmond has me worried.
Some have said over recent time that the problem with Richmond wasn't drafting, it was development.
Plus, lets be honest, what haven't Richmond f*cked up in recent times!
All of St Kilda's recent coaching appointments have been great (with the possible exception of Barker), so I have full confidence in their appointment process.

Yep. The interesting part of the article IMO is this quote:saintlee wrote:Spinner wrote:I wouldn't be too worried, Richmond and St Kilda have totally different cultures and systems in place.
He comes to the Saints with a wealth of off-field experience; 15 years in fact.

Better than saying "all clubs are pretty much the same, I just hope I can contribute a little bit bit of what I have learnt at all the hugely successful other franchises I have been involved with". "Going forward".

Yes, highly credentialled and thought of in football circles.Teflon wrote:Great get - Little surprised by some of the negative comments - Royal is highly respected in football circles.......I certainly think branding him cause of his time at Richmond is a narrow view.
Considered by many to have been unlucky not to land a senior coaching role in the AFL.
We are assembling a very experienced coaching panel.
Who has gone or is this appointment and additional position?
So you'd rather a less-credentialled ex-Saint take the job rather than the absolute best candidate out there???borderbarry wrote:Are there no ex Sainters out there?
The days of prodigal sons being automatically welcomed back on sentiment rather than qualifications are gone...welcome to AFL footy in the 21st Century
