Saint Opens Up
"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

Yep I wouldn't bother if I were you guys.
Absolute fluff article. Was actually expecting something half decent, but oh well.
ONE THING though -
Article states that up to 20 players had post-season surgery.
Montagna also states: "I think myself and Dal are the only ones in full training at the moment."
This seems a bit in contrast to other reports I've been hearing from the Club and Coach.

Yeh agree, read it then searched through the rest of the sport section to find the rest of the report.Quixote wrote:Yep I wouldn't bother if I were you guys.

Yeh 20 players, that's a lot.
I loved the part where he said he had never thought about leaving!

20 players had surgery... and only two doing full training!
This is a worry.
This article from a week ago paints a totally different picture:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/n ... 5806318923
They can't be too bad if they are all doing running sessions (except jesse smith) all of a week ago... can they...?
but then again - you'd hardly say "They have come back in very good condition" if 95% of them had surgery...
and does this mean if roo didn't get an operation on his knee - he had surgery on something else...?
I'm confused

hadn't thought of that! hahamarkp wrote:I do like the concept of 'Saints footy'... and the thought of any other team trying to play it is pretty funny.
Maybe the Tigers should give it a crack.
Pretty clever marketing coining "saints footy" and having our clubs campaign based around what other clubs will be trying to imitate this year.
Plus the players mention it in virtually every interview they make anyway

20 players. That is outrageous. So they must have been red hot and fit on GF day last year.Spinner wrote:Yeh agree, read it then searched through the rest of the sport section to find the rest of the report.Quixote wrote:Yep I wouldn't bother if I were you guys.

The artilcle does not actually quote Joey as saying up to 20 had surgery. Who knows where the reporter got that from. However, it does quote him as saying that only himself and Dal are in full training. This will be part of the management of lots of players. Any players who have had surgery etc will be being managed progressively in the lead up to Christmas. The fact that all except Jesse Smith were able to run at that session the other week is good news. People are making comparisions to Hawthorn...but there would have been many more of them than that unable to run at the same stage last year. Ross has also said that a lot of the surgeries were minor clean ups of the shoulders etc, thus not effecting their fitness or ability to run. They seem to do surgeries fairly routinely these days in an aim to make things as perfect as possible. I think I remember reading somewhere else that the figure was only 9...so who knows what the truth is. Ross did say in the lead up to the GF when all the focus was on Nick's knee that their were many others playing in equally as much discomfort.
The "up to 20" line may also refer to the list as a whole, not just the GF team.
The coach seemed very happy and comfortable with where things are at so that's the main thing. He didn't have to say those things about how fit they were, so hopefully its true. I'm trying to look on the positive side.
