Hope you are kidding.

Do you really think the Saints choose a young player on emotion???

F*** you dont think much about Lyon if thats the case
with Joffa on this one.

the one thing you can say after the past year is that emotion is not a word in Ross's lexicon.

Plenty of examples:
- maguire stuck on 99 games
- max left out of the granny
- decision to keep playing raph clarke (that's especially for you joffa :) )
- position on ball

So, I think we can all safely say that drafting winmar (how good does it feel as a supporter to say it though) was not done on emotion.

philip
i agree with you.

would find it very hard to believe that it was based on an emotional thing, especially with the examples you stated.

Absolutely! Ross is far, far, far from being a sentimentalist. Not to mention, he started coaching at St.Kilda a good 8 or 9 years after Winmar's playing days at St.Kilda.

Winmar - he's ross's little gift pick to the bleeding masses, torn by the recent departure of idols like Harvey, max, goose, x, and ball.
A little bit of hope and dream to last us through the Xmas season.
bless you Ross!

mind you I would've nabbed Troy Taylor (or even Scott) ahead of him.

Next we will be picking up Charlie McAdam, son of Gilbert. Could do worse.

I would have thought it was the recruiting guys who make the recommendations on which kids to pick in the first instance, with the coach giving final approval.

So the question is how much were the recruiting team influenced by the Winmar name - not the coach - and to use RL's terminology - did we pay a fair market value.
