None of them have done anything yet in 2010. Who know s who is going to have a long term injury (no-one I hope) etc. It is all just supposition.

Walsh has never played AFL in his life and you expect him to stand up Round 1 next year?
And Smith is now battling for Clarke's position and if he can stay injury-free he will most likely get it.

And who exactly is going to replace them?

If fully fit, it is still arguable if J Smith can get to that stage, therefore R Clarke instead.

Stevn instead of Milne if a final. Look for Lynch and Heyne to pressure for a spot also.

So Milne kicks 50 for the year and 20 in his last 3 games but is dropped before the first final. I just dont get it.

it's up to milney and the selection comittee. if they feel that there is a knock on him and that that is a reason for non-selection then he wont be picked. milney very may well become a jimmy gwilt - great during the H&A season with a view to someone else in a GF.

Comparing Jimmy to Milney. You need to stop taking the stuff immediately.

i'm just sayin'. we have a lot of good players nowadays. if all fully fit within the context of the OP there is a definite case for competitively earning a spot in a GF. i'm just saying. i love milney but yeah, if there is someone bigger and stronger i'm just sayin'. i love him but yeah. a GF is a GF.

Have you ever seen Steven? He is not a big boy. Plus he has played mostly midfield in the VFL as far as I've seen, so why would he replace a small forward?

I don't believe in picking players for finals or ordinary matches.

You pick players to eventually play in finals - The other way round just doesn't make any sense.

I would still prefer to see something like this evolve:-

Peake Dawson Gilbert
Miles Fisher Gram
Dal Santo Goddard Hayes
Lovett Koschitzke Lynch
Schnieder Riewoldt Steven
Gardiner Jones Montagna
Clarke Armitage Ray King
Baker Blake McEvoy

There will be injuries, and some may not reach expectations meaning the veterans, Baker and Blake will get match time, form allowing - and some others may get a go, again performances warranting.

The reason I make no change is because of our Trade actions and the comments we have made following the Draft.

We have traded for line carriers (including discarding who we have discarded) and we have commented on Miles as we have.

We have commented on Pattinson as we have - confirming my observations of Mc Evoy as a ruckman at this stage of his development - and confirming just how vital Gardiner and King are to us.

I, for one, am happy with who we have assembled, and what we have assembled because the comment made in respect to Miles addressed a deficiency we had in 2009 and particularly on Grand Final day - and in the couple of losses toward the end of the season which, along with Ball's papers being marked following the Geelong game, sounded the warning signs, warning signs we could not address from our 2009 list short of throwing Jack Steven in at the very deep end - and Miles was injured so that was not an option.

As soon as we went after Lovett and Peake I was pleased.

Baker and Blake and the others I have discarded from 2009, with all due respect to their inividual efforts and performances, did not bring to the team the reasons Miles was close to selection in 2009, as now acknowledged, and the reasons he had been promoted from the Rookie List for the 2010 season.

That said, if Smith is half as good as a NM following mate of mine would have - a super star - he would take Miles' place accross the outer defensive line where his 191cm attracts me.

Good sides play players like this on a flank - which is always where I wanted Fisher but that option is gone with Goose, unfortunately.

Players in defence who can not be isolated and exposed - for that vital yard in pace, disposal wise under pressure or overhead.

Hence Baker and Blake miss out for those recruited or those who were close to a game in 2009 for the reasons they were close to a game.

And Gardiner and King ruck - particularly for the 'big' games because their match appearances will be controlled.

As a wild card is an adequate defensive 6 replacement for Gilbert, releasing him to the mid-field and giving Lyon his 189cm and 194cm running mid-fielders he spoke of in 2008 - saying that day would come and they would wreak havoc.

You take careful note of what those in charge say.

They are there for a reason and that reason means you tuck their comments away for future reference - and with confidence.

Just to add, "He has really good pace and carries the football and you can not get enough of these players on your List. He is physically and mentally ready to go".

Run that criteria accross the list we have assembled and your 22 starts to become pretty obvious in my view - and the others aspire to such a description to push their credentials.

If you have players who have "really good pace and carry the football" and are "physically and mentally ready to play" the shots on goal and the opportunity for shots on goal will come and we will not have to rely on Plugger making a come back and kicking 5 goals a game as our full forward to win a match.

B J Blake Z Dawson S Baker
HB R.Clarke S Fisher S Gilbert
C J Gram L Hayes D Armitage
HF Goddard Roo A Lovett
F A Scneider Kosi S Milne
R M Gardiner Montagna Dal Santo

I B Mc Evoy A Mc Qualter F Ray Steven

be great to see J Smith fully fit and firing but really is it realistic in 2010?

I hope it is. Anyway the above team is not only flag worth but BACK to BACK flag worthy seriously on bakes and possiby gardiner would retire at years end.

B: Gilbert, Dawson, Baker (Geary, Eddy, Dempster)
HB: Clarke (Smith, Miles), Blake, S.Fisher
C: Gram, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Lovett, Riewoldt, Schneider (steven)
F: Milne (heyne), Koschitzke, McQualter (Lynch)

Foll: Gardiner, Goddard, Dal Santo
Int: King (McEvoy) , Ray (Peake), Jones, Armitage

the players in brackets will be challenging and being borderline selection pending nab cup and pre season...

Baker is 100% starter by the way...the following players could only fill his role if he went down
