I don't get it surely we would have been better off having a punt on some kids

Understand the sentiment but Jesse Smith has done his 'apprenticeship' - which Ross loves - and knows what's required.

If we can get his ankles right, we've got a fine player. I'm a big wrap for his talent. Injuries are his worry.

Pattison is a bit more speculative IMO. Taken a bit early for mine but understand the rationale.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Well Jesse is only 22 I think?

Not sure on Pattison...

JWS was talked up as the second coming by some Roos supporters...if we can get him right. This could be a magnificent pick.

As for Pattison...well...meh.

Both are fairly young in the 20-23 bracket...

I thought Pattison was a great prospect about 2 years... never really came on though.

IMO our ruck department was a lot weaker than most realised.
Gardiner could disappear just as quickly as he came (IMO will fall away very quickly at some point at some point) King sufficient at best, McEvoy looks promising but has to prove himself, Stanley is raw.

I think the coaching staff had a similar vein of thought
Safe pick IMO.

May not be a great pick up but is not a dud either. Has a lot of up side.

Picks 60 and 64 in a weak draft.

Not really interested in late draft picks. Lots of luck required to get anything long term.
My concern is with WINMAR.
Did we pick him because of his association with a former St Kilda player OR was he really the next best available player ?
A very DUD draft for the St Kilda footy club IMO.

have a look at the Utube's of him.

Nice mover, kicks both feet, quick hands, looks like a good mark.

Needs to work on disposal a bit but looks like he can play

Lance or James??

His disposal is apparently one of his strengths - came second in the kicking test at draft camp... the mozz on him is his endurance

The club recognised that picks 60 and 64 would have been picks 90 and 96 in an uncompromised draft.
Last year they would be equivalent to rookie picks 15 and 21.

A choice of gambling on recycled players of known abilities or gambling on kids with limited and unknown abilities.

Seeing Matt Maguire was still around the selection of two recycled talls says that St Kilda thinks Matt's legs are well and truly stuffed.

And is only a very distant relation to the Nicky we all know and love. Not close to the great one by any means.

Maybe. Seemed to get caught a bit with the ball which affected his disposal.

Endurance can be improved as he gets fitter.

are you joking? we picked up what 7? kids last year plus rookies. smith is still young and if he stays injury free may actually play in a flag in the next couple of years unlike a kid we'd pick in the 60's. was widely regarded as the best player in his draft and i am glad we got him.

patto on the other hand... wtf? mcevoy and stanley are plenty of back up i would have thought

Read the words people. I said that the DRAFT was a dud, not the lad WINMAR.
Hope he does well. Not sure the club went into bat with youth on their agenda.

Smith is worth the punt. Probably finished but no real problem. Patterson is a wasted pick or RL just doesnt rate McEvoy.
