Why would we demonstrate a lot of enthusiasm, we didn't really have the picks in an already shallow draft.

I am happy with Winmar, he looks the goods, has nice disposal and seems one to work with, Smith could be anything, and any other picks after this are always speculative at best.

Not a lot to work with but a decent effort IMO.

Winmar's speed and endurance results were also exemplary, clocking just 3.3 seconds for the 20m sprint and 25.14 seconds for repeat sprint.

Strange. That's not a very good sprint time.

I'm feeling less than enthused with the draft results ...

Smith - probably the only one that I'm mildy excited about. Worth the punt, but like X Clarke before him, we may never see his best.

Pattison - insurance pick obviously, but @ 197cm he sounds like Brett Cook circa 1997.

Wil Johnson - prove me wrong kid - but you sound just like Murray Pitts

.. and to top it off, Luke Ball ends up at Collingwood with nothing in return, and our first round draft pick (Lovett) gets offside with the team before he even starts.

On the bright side there is the prospect of Tommy Walsh

Seriously underwhelming draft.

lol at Jesse Smith bailing on the Roos due to poor facilities.....wait till you get to moorabbin...lols. North are in their new rooms now...we have a year to go.

Thats our worst draft since Timwit.

Granted, the depth just wasnt there.

But while the Saints got nothing in return for the player the selected at pick two in the 2001 national draft, Lyon was unrepentant when asked after the draft about the merits of the Saints' decision to let the 142-game veteran leave for nothing.

"We certainly have no regrets and we wish Luke all the best personally," Lyon said.

"At the end of the day now we all move on and focus on our own resources and players and we are all about mounting our campaign for 2010."

Hine said Ball, who is expected to sign a three year deal with the Pies, would complement the club's exciting young midfield and would help the likes of last year's talented midfield draftees Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams enormously with his experience and ability to win the hard ball.

"It was about protecting them (Sidebottom and Beams) - that was a real priority now that Shane O'Bree is getting towards the end of his career and Luke will certainly do that,' Hine said.

When Carl Lewis won gold in 1988 he ran the first 20 meters in 2.96 seconds... Usain Bolt did it in 2.87 when he ran a 9.69 second 100m (both in their prime)... I'd say 3.3 seconds is quick.

it may be a faster surface, because there were 13/75 kids who tested 2.96 or better at draft camp. There were plenty more who tested better than Winmar's time. Winmar is probably faster than his time indicates, but his draft camp performances were hardly exemplary.

No not at all - my son played against him a while ago in the under 14s (Winmar played for Scarborough) and he was a jet - in a different league to the rest of the kids. I think he will be very good

pattison? I remember thinking he wAS DOING WELL not a bad back up at all.

dawson and Miles 2 elevated rookies I both like. We are looking alright. We myaswell go for the flags all guns blazing for the next 3/4 years then plummet when the concessions to GC and WS are done perfect timing I reckon.

Be happy guys we are flag contenders for at least the next 2 years probably 3 or 4 thanks to recycling.

the one thing you can say after the past year is that emotion is not a word in Ross's lexicon.

Plenty of examples:
- maguire stuck on 99 games
- max left out of the granny
- decision to keep playing raph clarke (that's especially for you joffa

)
- position on ball

So, I think we can all safely say that drafting winmar (how good does it feel as a supporter to say it though) was not done on emotion.
