I think the problem with you Rodger is that you think you're smart.

Another opportunity awaits!

Given that Roger is not comprehending why people think Ross is well equipped to coach the team to a grand final win, I thought this would be a good exercise for him to honestly evaluate where the team had grown and moved forward from the year previous.

Somehow, this became seperating the H&A and the finals series, but I want him to see the growth in the side under Ross Lyons direction for the year in it's entirety.

If he cannot see that the club is moving forwards, then that's fine, but I am still waiting to see his response.
No, you've misinterpreted what I wrote.

I started by saying 'it's not as simple as that'. Meaning, our H&A season was unbelievably good. However our finals series wasn't great - infact quite average really.

I see finals and H&A as vastly different kettles of fish. It's why we have a finals series after the H&A season and don't just hand the Cup over at the end of R22.

We saw some areas which were under scrutiny in 2005-2008 apparently addressed in 2009 throughout the H&A season - however when we got to the finals those same issues reared thair heads again.

Recruitment, depth, Milne, mental toughness, seclection, game day coaching etc.

To look at the 2009 as a whole compared to the 2008 season as a whole gives an inaccurate portrayal of where we're at.

Yes - we lost the GF by about a kick in conditions that don't suit us against a very good football team who were always going to be super hungry. At the start of 2009 no-one could see bar the hawks challenging them - especially the saints. INstead of improving the saints against all popular opinion, you claim we have gone backwards - I have not read one logical conclusion to how you came to this. Because Rooey was dominant in the finals? Because a couple of players struggled? Mate, they are finals - if every player stood up and played superbly, then we would have won the thing by 20 goals!

WE won two finals, against the best opposition, which is why they are finals. We fell just short in the big one. Anyone would think we went out in straight sets.

Yes I know, I know, that's settling for mediocrity blah blah blah. The way you're talking Rodger, you'd think we were barely competitive. The other 6 teams in the finals must have been absolutely hopeless

I thought this thread was about Lovett getting caught drinking. Why do so many threads degenerate into these sorts of slanging matches?

It gives an entirely accurate portrayal of where the team is at, it just doesn't sit comfortably with you because it doesn't reflect your opinion.

I am surprised that you rate the finals series as average to be honest, I thought that you were big enough to give credit where due.

If you are beyond being impressed with the win against Collingwood, and you didn't think that the final against the Bulldogs reflected mental toughess, then you have allowed your view to become prejudiced IMO.

Because of Violent Rodger Stool Fox.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Ok, so we win 19 straight and beat Geelong, smash the Dogs twice and totally dominate the comp.

Then in the finals, we beat an inispid Collingwood, then get some widely acknowledged good fortune to beat the Dogs, then can't beat an injury stricken Geelong team after being in front at 3Q time.

Fair to say the H&A season was a fraction different to what we served up in September don't you think?

i dont disagree with anything the dodger has to say. but can we keep the topic on the thread title?

otherwise start a new one called:

"2009 where we are at and 2010 things to improve"

or something of that nature. this thread is for A Lovett issues :-)

Would you have said we dominated the comp in 2008? Of course not...

I made a case that RL had brought the team forward in 2009, when you specifically asked a poster why you should have faith in Ross.

You continue to break it down to one component, that being finals, which suits your argument.

THIS DISCUSSION HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE THREAD ENTITLED "Discussion re: the Saints 2009 peformance continued"

Please Mods

Would it be possible to lock this thread to get Andrew Lovett's name of the headline? I think for a new recruit, it wouldn't be very good for his self esteem to have his name on this long thread.

Milan

I haven't broken it down to 1 component - I've broken it down into 2.

H&A and Finals. I made it very clear that from a H&A perspective we went forward greatly.
However once we hit the finals in 09 these improvements vanished and in most cases went either back to 08 levels or worse.

When you asked the question, I made it clear there it wasn't as simple. That's because they don't give out flags after the H&A season - and our form for 20 weeks was vastly different from our form of the last 6 matches of the season.

Of course it suits my argument - it's 'my argument' because I believe it to be true based on what I've put forward.

From this afternoon's MX (25-NOV-09)

Lovett gets away with it at Saints

St Kilda will take no action against new re3cruit Andrew Lovett, despite his arrest for being drunk in a public place earlier this month.

But Saints coach Ross Lyon said Lovett was well aware any future misbehaviour wouldn't be tolerated at Moorabbin.

The 27 year old former Essendon midfielder was celebrating his birthday with friends in St Kilda before being charged by police.

Lovett - who signed a two-year deal with thge Saints in trade week - met the leadership group this week and Lyon said the chat should be enough to prevent any more indiscretions.

"From here, he's under no illusions about the requirements and the actions he needs to take to earn respect and more importantly trust here" Lyon said.

"In simple terms, we're not a babysitting service, we're about self-directed, motivated athletes and Andrew's confident from here he can buy into that."

Mods, for the good of the forum ban this idiot and his nuffie sympathizers now, obviously clueless and would not get a drum even with a brass band up them.

Just ban dodgy and all dissidents who ark up in his support, so we don't have the forum trolled with this dumbed down, dipshit, dingbat, douche bag drivel.

Poor Essendon seems that their players can't stay away from the alcohol.

Seems their No 5 pick from last year Michael Hurley got arrested for having a few too many.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

If only they had come to St Kilda in trade week and said we have another drunk to get rid of.
I am sure St Kilda would have said "you take pick 30 from Collingwood, we give Collingwood Luke Ball, and you give St Kilda Michael Hurley".

Everyone would have been happy, Essendon relieved of a headache, Malthouse would be able to say he didn't trade Didak, and Lyon would have got a genuine tall defender prospect.

Even Hurley and his family would have been happy.
Seems the family were keen Saints fans until their son was drafted by Essendon.
Dad said they had a road to Damascus experience.
I am sure we would have forgiven and let the family back into heaven.
