As i have said in previous posts, he has actually signed a contract with us...

So why we have not released this really gets me stumped, he is training with us because he is a St.kilda listed player.

I have heard this form someone who is quite close to Moran, he is also a very big social drinker so if he wants to become professional he has stop his drinking

I guess we didn't tell the AFL, then. He's on the official "Permission to Train" list (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx). Usually they don't put players on there who already have contracts...

Keep him and Lovett away from each other then....last thing we need is players on the booze....

Mind you, I'm sure boozing won't be tolerated by the leadership group, they won't last long if they can't stay off the sauce

At Sandringham to start with. :D :D :D

Probably as a key defender, he is over 190 but I don't know how much over.

I have the idea that he is 193cm. And that he played as an on-baller sort of role, but that might just be the Irish game.

From what I have read, midfielder in Gaelic Football is entirely different to AFL and height is an advantage and so midfielders are tall.

Aussie Rules agent Ricky Nixon has warned David Moran to change his attitude or risk missing out on a contract with Melbourne club St Kilda.
But it doesn't sound too bad, I don't think...

Would not be the first time St Kilda recruited someone carrying a bit of puppy fat.

I remember Robert Walls commenting on the puppy fat on a guy called Nick Dal Santo.

What matters is how he trains over the two weeks.
If he goes through the motions, he will return to Ireland. :(
If he bursts his guts, his trip to Australia will have been one way. :D

This is probably a stupid question but after the draft where does this leave Moran?

Moran would be an international rookie like Walsh. We don't have to draft him, we just have to choose whether or not to sign him.

Downside is Irishmen don't go on the international rookie list as part of an agreement to mollify the Irish and keep the international rule series barely conscious. So he'd take up a slot on the rookie list.

So tell me if i have this right...
Your rookie list can have up to 6 players?
We kept 3 rookies from this year
Signed Walsh from ireland
Picked up 2 rookie players in the draft

I was thinking it was full... but then read Matthew Drain's comments on Will Johnson after the draft:
"He's only 19 but we see that he'll play AFL senior football next year"

So if Johnson goes straight into the seniors does this mean there is a spare slot in the rookie list to fill?

We actually upgraded 2 rookies in the draft. In this draft you cant pick up rookies. I think we still have 3 spots left but Ace will now and he will cut and past it from one of his sites.

I seem to remember reading that the Gaelic midfielders job was to contest long kick-ins like ruckmen do in the AFL.

The big difference being that in Gaelic football it is immediate play on after a mark.
That dissuades the short kick-in, so common in AFL, and also requires the guys contesting the kick-in to be mobile as well as tall.

Does anyone have any news on David Moran.
His two week trial is up.
The club has to pre-select him by 2PM this Tuesday if they want to rookie him.
But first they need him to sign and the club make a public announcement.

Providing the club does not move Steve Baker to veteran outside the list of 38 to create a Pre-Season pick, St Kilda has 4 uncommitted rookie picks in the rookie draft Nos 20, 36, 52 and 68.
These numbers will change after List Lodgement No3 next Wednesday as clubs will have finished pre-selecting and delisting.
With no more list changes those picks would become picks 20, 36, 48 and 58.

Tommy Walsh is pre-selected so commits pick 84.
Walsh will be an international rookie but not a former international SCHOLARSHIP rookie.
If not promoted, International rookies do not have to face the National and Pre-Season Drafts for 3 years.
International scholarships are not available to the Irish to appease the GAA.

Each club has three slots reserved only for FORMER SCHOLARSHIP rookies.
St Kilda has only one of these slots filled - Blake McGrath.
They could still pre-select Josh Duncan and/or Ted Widmer by next Tuesday but talk on this site is they will not.

Strong rumour was that it was always going to just be a 2 week trial and they may look at him next season.
