What I was trying to indicate is that he has been alone over the past few weeks, without a club or team mates to accompany him or guide him.Moods wrote:ace wrote:He has left the security of his former "friends" at Essendon and has yet to join his new friends at St Kilda.
Let's hope his new friends show him the right way and keep him out of further trouble.
Not sure you can lump this with the saints players Ace. In my opinion it has to come from the individual. Saints can set an example, can tell him what is expected of him, but really the rest is up to him. The most concerning thing for me is that I would have thought he'd be trying to prove to everyone he's a changed person, regardless of whether training has started or not. Hopefully this is the jolt that snaps him out of his stupidity.
Once training recommences he will no longer be left alone.

Yup and yup... in many ways it probably is an opportunity.saint66au wrote:Exactly..evertonfc wrote:A minor concern.
But if we're smart, this is a good opportunity for the leadership group to call him in explain that's not how we do things at St Kilda.
Would be far more concerning if it happened the Sat before Round 1...but atm hes a St Kilda player pretty much in name only. Has hardly set foot in the place
Would love to be a fly on the wall when he fronts the leadership group
It's nice to have confidence in our culture and processes... hopefully this will have a happy ending.

I'm sure it will be nipped in the bud, when they start training he will have support around the clock.saintbrat wrote:Greg Hutchison confirmed the arrestThe Fireman wrote:The Club hasn't said anything?

The link to the story below from today's Age is NOT meant to suggest Lovett was picked up because he is aboriginal. Alone, drunk, on the street at 6:00AM is a disgrace. He was probably simply a danger to himself.
But the story does reflect a reality in certain parts of Australia--hopefully not in Melbourne--that sometimes racial bias and policing are indeed linked.

It's just being drunk in a public place and believe it or not some get locked up for their own safety and not because they have done anything more.Milan Faletic wrote:Any more news on this? Nothing on the Herald Sun website today.
I would not expect the Club to comment any much further and keep it in house, after all it was whilst he was on leave and not in training.
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

David the Ox- said of the incident- the leadership group at St Kilda will handle it much differantly than the Bombers did last year - more mature been together longer etc.

would Ross have played with him?Alcohol and the behaviour associated with it are entrenched strongly in our culture, and we seem to be willing participants in a not-
so-subtle orgy. It's a strong mix and difficult to rally against. Especially with end-of-year parties added to all the usual justifications for indulging. No longer can we point the finger elsewhere, saying it's just them over there - they're the bingers, alcoholics and drunken louts getting blind, wasted, off their faces. Truth is, it's a societal problem - and it has been for a long time. Yet we need to look hard to see the underlying causes.

Should be interesting to see what happens. Good to see that they are taking action.

There is only so much the club and it's leaders can do. Ultimately it is up to Lovett.xander wrote:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... 5798358170

So the Herald Sun are running a poll if we should sack him straight up?
The club is aware of the risk, and they are obviously confident that the club culture is strong enough to mould and strengthen a character.
Given that he hasn't been exposed to our club culture yet, I'm thinking washing our hands of him would be just a little hasty

They've released a statement:

Doesn't sound too bad...St Kilda footballer Andrew Lovett is facing a police charge of being drunk in a public place, the AFL club announced on Monday night.
A St Kilda statement said the incident happened when Lovett, while on annual leave, was celebrating his birthday with friends at a private residence in St Kilda early Saturday morning.
