I was very surprised that these two weren't delisted at list lodgement one. It was surprising to see Goose delisted before them. Then I found out they both had contracts. I was surprised L Fisher was not delisted last year so can't believe he had a contract covering both years. Interesting. Were these contracts done by Matthew Drain, or before he took over that position which was the end of last year wasn't it. Anyone know??plugger66 wrote:No arguement from me. Obviously an error to give him another contract especially since he was delisted about 8 weeks later.St Fidelius wrote:Well can you please tell me this..plugger66 wrote:Pretty sure it is called a contract.skeptic wrote:Brad Howards retention is interesting, thought he was a monty for the can
like him or not, they're clearly giving him every opportunity to succeed... i wonder what they see in him and what role they have in mind
Just when was his contract renewed?
I remember 1 game I some him play with the seniors (it was a home game) , and he did not have a clue, and ran with the ball carrying it behind his flowing neck and was penalised with holding the ball...

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe there is a really small chance we might rookie draft him...highly doubt it though. But I'll keep hoping until all hope is gone....lol...shmic_s wrote:ahhh, so they can pick up the goose!Mr Magic wrote:DId Carlton delist anybody today?

The club has until 1 December to pre-select them ahead of the rookie draft.goodie wrote:Still no announcement on Duncan and Widner, getting a tad concerned...

Equivalent to pick 111 in an uncompromised draft.Eastern wrote:Pick 80 effectively becomes Pick 74. That being said, there aren't too many gems left at that stage of a "thin" Draft !!
The quality of player at pick 74 is equivalent to Rookie pick 26 last year.
(79 National Draft picks + 6 Pre Season Draft picks + 26 Rookie picks = Pick 111)
Pick 60 is equivalent to Rookie pick 5 and pick 64 equivalent to Rookie pick 11.
Even pick 32 is equivalent to pick 48 last year.
The good news is that it is the same for the other 16 clubs.
All 16 teams must make do with the players they have already got or with lower quality recruits.

St Kilda has only 4 live picks in the National Draft because Steven Baker was made a veteran INSIDE the senior list of 38.PJ wrote:So tell me again how many players are we likely to add to the list from here on in? Not rookie list that is.
Those picks are pciks 32, 60, 64 ,74.
Given the compromised draft I would expect the club to pass at pick 74.
Then use that pick at pick 15 in the Pre-Season Draft on a recycled player OR failing that on a young recruit ahead of the rookie draft.
It is likely that no more than one pick will be made after pick 74, so not many young recruits will be overloooked by waiting.
The field can be closely re-examined in the interval between the National and Pre-Season drafts.

Cheers for that guys - you'd think we'd be looking for at least 1 player from another club. Everyone's talking up J McDonald but the guy from Hawthorn is an interesting One - Mitch......? People have bagged his attitude but you'd think most of that is supposition and besides we're not looking for best friends just f**king good players.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

This is like pre-selected rookies at the rookie draft, the players have to be formally announced but the picks are not live as the pre-selections are already locked in.saintbrat wrote:I get lost with all these moves

It will mean that St Kilda's last live pick may not be the 74th name called but it will be the 74th recruit or recycled player selected.
Miles and Dawson will be St Kilda's 5th and 6th picks unless St Kilda PASSes to create a Pre-Season pick in which case Miles and Dawson will be St Kida's 4th and 5th pick.

Its not going to happen duncan has nominated for draft after being shafted by the saints not bad after being the only saints scholarship player to play afl for his state for the last 2 years and getting in the best numerous times must be a great draft if he cant get a gig?ace wrote:They would not cost anything against the salary cap as rookies but they may be cosidered a waste of money and effort.borderbarry wrote:On the subject of the two NSW Scholarship boys, Duncan and Widner,I read somewhere that the Saints were not going to take them up as rookies. Has anyone else heard anything along these lines?
The club has until 1 December, the day before List Lodgement No3 is due to pre select them as rookies.
But if the club has NOT already agreed to rookie them, they would have wanted to nominate for the National Draft last Tuesday.

The AFL Draft List Order published at http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx
includes rookie promotions.
This distorted the draft order as these preselections are already locked in.
They are not live picks.

Another take could be he was offered a rookie place but wanted a senior place so nominated for the National Draft.st1 wrote:Its not going to happen duncan has nominated for draft after being shafted by the saints not bad after being the only saints scholarship player to play afl for his state for the last 2 years and getting in the best numerous times must be a great draft if he cant get a gig?ace wrote:They would not cost anything against the salary cap as rookies but they may be cosidered a waste of money and effort.borderbarry wrote:On the subject of the two NSW Scholarship boys, Duncan and Widner,I read somewhere that the Saints were not going to take them up as rookies. If he fails, St Kilda could then still pre-select him but he would have to come back across the threshold that Luke Ball would not.
