i don't mind that he's gone... personally felt that his best was behind him.

i don't begrudge him for wanting to leave... am disappointed though that he's walked out on us and we get nothing for him. I find his walking out to be somewhat disrespectful.

I really have no idea how to feel about this.

You can say the Saints have invested so much and paid him well for it that Ball should be loyal, stay and take the fight.

I know the majority of people if asked to diminish their annual earnings, for about 20% of their career, by about 40% they would take the money and change organisations.

If you were told your work opportunities (and consequentially your future earning opportunities) in the short term have been comprimised in the current organisation, and you had secure alternatives with greater promised work opportunities you would leave.

Everything in th head says Ball has made the correct decision. The heart is still undecided to remember his 8 years of commitment and applaud him for that or to shun him and hope he is only remembered for his brief brilliance with the saints.

Other problem is, I have to admit to my father he was right in 2004 in saying Dal was a better midfielder for the Saints. I was still holding onto the hope.

We get salary cap space which will come in handy later down the line

Would rather have salary cap space than fill it with something we don't need (ie: pick 30 in a weak draft and Goldhack)

He warked out 6 weeks ago but we chose not to trade him. That is fair enough. It has know been written that he would have stayed but may have struggled for a game. As I have written before that doesnt suit most people so we dont beleive that story.

Bally is a prick. It is so obvious. The man who 4 months ago had better morals than Judd and Hodge and no one would swap for either of those has now the morals of Mick Gatto and the ability of David Windbanks.

Yup, may have 'struggled' for a game... he was only picked in the GF team to appease his fans.

MELBOURNE will play hard ball with potential recruit Luke Ball, declaring yesterday it could use its pick 11 to secure him in the national draft.

But we were unreasonable not to take pick 30 for him from the filth.

Yep, doesn't wash with me...I wouldn't offer a three year contract to a player who I didn't see getting much game time over the coming years. That would be showing sentiment, would be unresponsible as far as resources go, and generally not very Ross Lyon.

He was asked to improve, and better himself....that we know.

Interesting part of that article to me is that Lyon laid out where he needed to improve and he wasn't willing to do it. If true, it only lends further weight that this is a guy with an inflated sense of his own ability and unwilling to commit to the improvement that Lyon has indicated will be required in 2010. Good riddance princess.
